California has been hit by a 5.1 magnitude earthquake as Hurricane Hilary hits LA and San Diego with 80mph winds.

The quake centered in Ventura County was felt across parts of Southern California on Sunday afternoon.

The center is reported to have been four miles southeast of Ojai, about 80 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

Shaking was reported in Malibu, Porter Ranch, parts of Los Angeles, Manhattan Beach and other locations.

A tornado warning has also been issued for San Diego and the surrounding Alpine and Descanso areas.

The National Weather Service released the warning at t 3:39 p.m. on Sunday local time, and will last until 4pm.

The United States Geological Survey, which reports and records earthquakes, said there were at least four aftershocks of magnitude-3.0 or greater.

It comes as Hurricane Hilary makes landfall in Southern California moving up from Mexico at speeds of 25mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Residents are contending with winds of 65mph and the expectation of torrential rain, that may bring up to ten inches in a matter of hours in some places.

At least one person has already died after their vehicle was swept away near Santa Rosalía, after catastrophic flooding swallowed parts of Mexico's Baja California Peninsula.

No, not quite. If you’re near the epicenter on a 5.1 shallow quake, you’ll think the world is coming to an end.

Not sure where that exists...TX, LA, FL, GA, SC, NC...None have earthquakes during hurricanes.

And they catch the majority of Atlantic hurricanes.

I talked with my uncle who lives in PV estates tonight. They have gotten some rain, but nothing to be worried about. Light wind. No Armegeden. No cars being washed down the streets.

All BS fear porn.

80 mph ? Gusts? Freepers please check in

Fastest winds today at LAX: 14 m.p.h. (most recent report had calm winds)
https://forecast.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KLAX.html

Fastest winds today at San Diego airport: 23 m.p.h.
https://forecast.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KSAN.html

Highest windspeeds I've seen reported were 45 m.p.h. in Yuma, Arizona and 40 m.p.h. in Imperial, California. Higher windspeeds were reported at higher elevations with no population -- both Sill Hill and Hauser Mountain reported 47 m.p.h.

For comparison, LAX has reported about 1.5 inches of rain all day today. San Diego airport reported even less.

Ha, speaking of PV. A couple of months ago there was a land sliding event that affected about a dozen homes. Today the county building and safety crew had to do an emergency inspection of those houses. Everyone is in on the Sunday triple time.

Eye of Storm is right now over downtown LA. To the north, east and west of downtown is now getting hammered with heavy rain.

Eye of the storm? Are you serious? There is no eye to Hilary. I'm not sure there ever was.

This is the most ridiculous thing I've heard about TS Hilary all day. I'm still laughing about it.

Hurricane Hilary Staggers Ashore, Shoved into SUV by Secret Service Agents

Dissipated Hurricane Hilary staggered ashore after briefly reaching category A status. A forecaster told O’Donnell News that Hilary was one of the biggest wet blanket events of the year. Russian interference is suspected as a cause of the storm’s woeful under-performance.

It is heading for oblivion over the Trump Range of northern California, after completely avoiding Santa Monica.

More correctly, the center of circulation. And Hilary had an eye before landfall in Baja Mexico.
