AP: Veto overridden: Ban on gender-affirming care for minors takes effect in North Carolina

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Transgender youth in North Carolina lost access Wednesday to gender-affirming medical treatments after the Republican-led General Assembly overrode the governor’s vetoes of that legislation and other bills touching on gender in sports and LGBTQ+ instruction in the classroom.

GOP supermajorities in the House and Senate enacted — over Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper’s opposition — a bill barring medical professionals from providing hormone therapy, puberty-blocking drugs and surgical gender-transition procedures to anyone under 18, with limited exceptions.

The law takes effect immediately. But minors who had begun treatment before Aug. 1 may continue receiving that care if their doctors deem it medically necessary and their parents consent.

Politics in NC are a bit bipolar. When we sent two Rs to the Senate, we elected a RAT Governor. I think right now it is about shifting demographics and MAGA. Liberal enclaves like Meklenburg and Wake counties put him in office before the MAGA revolution. He was elected over the gay bathroom issue.

The real question will be how if at all the influx of Cali Tech voters will affect the next election. Mark Robinson is very popular in this State. He is Black and a hardcore 2d Amendment man. He is by all appearances a religious man. He will throw liberals into fits as he could be the first black Governor. White liberal voters will look like the Worms of Annelids playing Twister when explaining how they voted against a black man.
