There is growing alarm about the pace and prospects of Ukraine’s counteroffensive, with few signs of progress in recent weeks and Russian lines holding strong.
Those concerns picked up steam in the past week after Ukraine launched a second push in the southern Zaporizhzhia region and has still come up mostly empty in the eyes of Western allies.
U.S. officials told CNN on Tuesday that significant progress was “highly unlikely,” especially with fall and winter fast approaching. And another U.S. official told NBC News, “There is a frustration that they have not used more of the combat power that they have.”
The Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft said in a “Time” magazine piece that Ukrainian forces are outmanned and outgunned and need a “Plan B,” which would include scaling back to focus on defense.
Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), a former football coach, gave voice to the growing skepticism, comparing Ukraine to “a junior high team playing a college team” in an interview with Fox News this week, adding: “They can’t win.”
Despite the sobering assessments U.S. officials are making anonymously in the media, the Biden administration maintains that Ukraine will recapture Russian-occupied territory and ultimately triumph.
The narrative has frustrated Ukraine, which continues to urge patience as it chips away at Russian fortifications — including thousands of landmines — and searches for weak spots along the frontlines.

It’s a “jobs program” for unionized munitions workers. Unfortunately it’s all funded by the US taxpayer (directly, or indirectly by inflated money).
Ceasefire.
No problem. Ukraine has so much on daughter showering Biden and his felon-family that they know that they’ll get some more millions (a good bit of which will somehow land in the DemocRAT party’s purse). We all know this is true.
The Ukie “troops” are disgusted that the commanders force them into the fire and then forget about them. No supplies, no medical care at all. They wont even get evacs in to transport the wounded.
Then, they are saying that these same commanders are stealing the payments that are supposed to go to the dead soldiers families.
“How did you go bankrupt?”
“Two ways. Gradually, then suddenly.”
— Hemingway
Get ready for the “suddenly” part.
That was one of the best acted movies ever made.
I can NOT, think of one better.
“The narrative has frustrated Ukraine, which continues to urge patience as it chips away at Russian fortifications — including thousands of landmines — and searches for weak spots along the frontlines.’
That’s just one small example of the insanity on display here. Ukraine can afford to waste that many lives probing here and there? If they do find a weak spot do they have the 3 or 4 Divisions they’d need to exploit it? What if there aren’t any weak spots. Say what you will about Russians .. they are very good in the defense. They apply Napoleon’s maxim of using artillery when your troops are poor. Ukraine doesn’t have unlimited people to toss into this meat grinder.
The neocons and defense contractors are happy though. Maybe the Zeepers could fly over to Ukraine and help out. That would certainly frighten the Russians to death. /S
Zelensky was a fool to believe the assurances that Nuland and the NATO fat cats promised him. What’s happening now is what they’ve wanted all along...foreverwar.
12 O’clock High.
Where is that Ruzzia gazzlight lady?
What was the movie?
A Lion in Winter
NeoCon Zeepers are going to hate this.
Time to call “Endex, endex, change mission.” The OPFOR have won this one.
Falters?
They now admit after months of hype aboout how great it was going and how they were chewing up the Russians, that it is faltering. So, given that level of hyperbole, when they describe faltering, what do they actually know is really going on? That much windage puts Col. MacGregor right on the mark all this time and surely he was never ever right in this like he has never ever been right about anything. Surely.
In the News/Activism forum, on a thread titled Alarm grows as Ukraine’s counteroffensive falters, Seruzawa wrote: “The narrative has frustrated Ukraine, which continues to urge patience as it chips away at Russian fortifications — including thousands of landmines — and searches for weak spots along the frontlines.’

As the Ukrainians 'probe' the frontlines under heavy fire from Russians, the Russians lay down additional lines of fortifications behind the ones being weakened. Should Ukrainians break through a 'front line' they will still have the same number of defensive lines, if not more, between them and the Russians. The Ukrainians know this, but order men into the field unprotected from enemy fire to 'continue probing."
