In the US, you are likely to find either Metaxa or Sans Rival brands of ouzo.
They’re both swill.
Most of us don’t know better or care. And that is ok. Some ouzo is better than no ouzo. It’s like choosing between Miller or boxed wine.
When I worked in NYC, there was a liquor store in Queens called Grand Liquors that had - no joke - about 15 different brands of ouzo. I bought about eight brands and held a taste test party. Ouzo 12 placed very high.
The best ouzo I ever had is Ouzo Mini, but I can’t guarantee it’s available for for sale in the US. Stateside, the best ouzo available is Barbayanni Blue Label.
It almost goes without saying, do not operate heavy machinery - or an iPhone - after a few snorts of ouzo.
