Mayor Eric Adams’ administration is launching a sweeping program to wipe out potentially hundreds of millions of dollars in medical debt that New York City patients owe to hospitals and other health-care providers, The Post has learned.
The city Health Department has entered into an agreement with the national not-for-profit group Medical Debt Resolution/RIP Medical Debt.
RIP Medical Debt acquires the patients’ debt from hospitals at a fraction of face value and pays it off with private donations raised, as well as public funding.
“RIP Medical Debt will act as the third party between funders and hospitals to forgive medical debt,” the Health Department said in a public notice.

The voters voted for it. Let them pay for it.
Congrats New York voters.
I recently lost a tooth and have scheduled an implant.
IIRC the quote was $$$8,000 !!!
Where is my payout?
The mayor is going to regret this decision big time. It may solve some short run problems for low-income recipients, but take a guess what’s going to happen to the healthcare needs of future low-income people.
Debt does not disappear. Somebody pays. NYS or any state does not generate income it simply collects it. Therefore it has no power to pay back any debt. No resources. It will collect it from the working stiffs out on ‘The Island, westchester, the boroughs and upstate
LI is turning into solid red Trump country. Let’s see what happens.
In Tijuana, Mexico an implant was about $895 in 2010 according to the signs I saw.
They are a couple thousand here- i could use a few, but the chances of getting them are slim to none
NY chitty- not NY, at this point anyway.
The end result of this??? Even more people leaving the craphole known as NY chitty

A guy that worked some years for me was Tex-Mex, a natural born in the US but with lots of family in Mexico. A good guy.
He had a solid crop of thick hair that started going south.
His family said to come on down for a visit and get a transplant, the savings will more than cover the flight.
After some time when he unveiled the masterpiece, it looked good!
A few months later it started thinning out.
No problemo they said, he returned for a re-transplant.
And a third verse same as the first.
Now he is mostly bald and attempts to wear a hat most of the time.
Two questions:
What is the salary of the Executive Director?
What is his party, and/or political donation history?
Betting this same government, which helped to void legitimate private debt, will NOT void the overdue tax debt owed by its own struggling citizens, or companies.
Here are the answers - According to the most recent 990 available, the Executive Director took a salary of $229,000 and received $5474 in benefits. She gave many donations in the $40 to $300 range, all the Democrats, including Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton.
According to the 990, this organization received about $66 million in non-government grants and donations in 2020, and according to the schedule A, none from donors over 1.676 million, other than unusual grants or publically-supported organizations.
Macro
Nys has no business deleting anyone’s debts. Not only do they not create revenue they are the most in debt state in the nation. Including California
“... and pays it off with private donations raised, as well as public funding.”
Public funding; anyone want to guess what this means?
And why would anyone donate privately when they know the taxpayers will take it in the shorts for them? And does anyone think the tax will recede after the debts are paid?
I underlined the worst part of the deal.
