As progressives want to do everywhere, California is destroying math education in the name of “equity.” The state’s new “math framework” for public schools ditches traditional instruction to emphasize “self-identity” and collaboration in lieu of actual math skills.
It aims to keep all students in the same math courses until 10th grade — no longer grouping students by skill so the kids who can learn more get the more advanced instruction they need. The result will be far fewer kids able to take advanced classes (calculus, or even algebra), and more “slow” children denied the chance to gain basic skills.
Seriously: The new guidelines push transparent nonsense like “math identity rainbows”: Each student is to pick a color representing his or her individual strength — communicating, perseverance or numerical reasoning (i.e., actual math) — with an eye on teamwork in a supposed “mathematical community.”

Someday, in the future, you will only have to learn your multiplication table up to 10 to get a PhD in math?
Are you woefully bad at ‘meth’(sic)
We’re doomed.
When you are raising livestock, the ultimate objective is to teach them to move docilely into the slaughtering bay and stand still.
Who needs math:
The University of California system will no longer require SAT and ACT scores for admission after reaching a settlement agreement, a statement from the UC system said.
Moronically evil....no other way to describe the ‘woke’.
It is why so many send their children to private schools
Heck, I thought that meth was one of the things that American youth were best with ...
I know how to cook meth, thanks UF…
Homeschool, charter schools, private schools, etc.
The poor and ignorant will become poorer and more ignorant.
Calculus for Dummies (Progressives).
Just so you know, while it is definitely worse, they were doing this over 20 years ago, they were just a little more subtle about it.
My daughter graduated from Lakeland High School in Lakeland Florida in 2000. They were teaching trigonometry as a requisite for going to college. Handing out a lot of Bs. My daughter had me pull her out of the class after a few weeks because most of the class was failing open book tests yet still getting passing grades. She said they weren’t even teaching the subject for all practical purposes.
When I went to have her pulled out of the class the principal and the school guidance counselor said she won’t be able to get into college without it. Yet the admissions director at University South Florida said it was not required. Lie number one. Here’s where it gets interesting, in Florida at that time, so it’s probably worse now, 1/3 of these kids who had gotten acceptable grades in trigonometry couldn’t pass basic freshman math and were required to take remedial math in order to stay enrolled.
That was actually 23 years ago. So care to guess how dumbed down it is today?
Wow, that sounds really binary.
That sounds like a question for Kindergarten or first grade.
And what will those kiddos do when they find out they can’t compete in the world market because of the inferior education they are now receiving? Demand “equity” from those countries that are shaming then? Bwhahahahahaha
I get it. Very clever. What you do with a math problem is find a smart kid to solve it for you. You're not a parasite, you're a "community member".
No, we're good at meth. Bad at math
At least Cali kids and their parents will have no clue what “lowest common denominator” means when people are talking about them.
