Meanwhile where is their poison pill from simply being snatched up by Bezos? That might defeat the owners' purpose for starting the site.

Exactly my concern.
Although, “going public” means that there will be many “owners” rather than 1 giant owner (presumably, anyway).

Although, “going public” means that there will be many “owners” rather than 1 giant owner (presumably, anyway).
Going public with many owners also means one rich guy can simply buy out 51% of shares and basically take over. So unless the company is retaining 51%+ with itself or with the current ownership, there's a chance they can be bought out by a hostile company.
