Ok, here’s what we’re going to do:
We’ll give you an EV. All you’ve got to do is keep it charged and drive it... say, 5,000 miles a year.
As long as you’re using it like a responsible citizen, you can go most any place you want. But, those old ICE cars will cost more and more to keep rolling. Sure, you can keep that old car to take to shows and stuff. They’ll keep NASCAR with ICE engines so change isn’t too jarring to the public.
If they put enough grease (taxpayer money) on the EV tracks people will fall right into one for their daily driver. Much like convincing (forcing) people to get an injection, the masses will actually help the cause. Notice how “fossil fuel” has become a bad word - a made-up term we have been led to use.
I’m thinking the crisis that drives this will be the looming bankruptcy of multiple car companies. As the public balks at buying them, something must be done!

If the “clean energy” does not include the adoption and widespread deployment of Small Modular Nuclear reactors, then it is mostly just money drizzled away for fruitless and frankly environmental endangering boondoggles.
