The Biden administration is actively considering sending cluster munitions to Ukraine to help Kyiv’s counteroffensive punch through Russia’s defenses, two U.S. officials and a person familiar with the debate said.
The discussion to send dual-purpose improved conventional munitions has intensified in recent days as Ukraine’s effort to break through Russia’s frontline has stalled. The belief among some senior U.S. officials is that the munitions could be one of many tools that makes Ukraine’s campaign more successful.
Late last year, the administration said it had “concerns” about delivering the munitions to Ukraine, mainly for humanitarian reasons and also the U.S. didn’t assess Ukraine needed them at that point. The administration never ruled out their delivery, but cluster munitions didn’t receive a serious look as there were other priority items to give to Kyiv first.

What is wrong with you people...Russia is not Iraq or Vietnam...no weapon you give Ukraine is going to get them a win...just prolong the misery...when this is all said and done Ukraine will get same deal they would have got at the start of this but worse with Russia keep all its gains which now include half of Kherson...Zelensky and wife will probably end up killed by Ukraine’s as most of the leadership...
They planned for over a year for this offensive...1 year with all NATO military and weapons...yet nothing. THINK?

I would think thermobaric bombs (fuel air explosives) and the means to deliver a LOT of them would be helpful to the Ukes as well.

A few thoughts. Everything has backfired on senile Joe, everything. Vlad defeats everything that is thrown at him….then he goes one up on him.
The West will cry when Vlad totally immerses them with his own cluster munitions x 100. He has not done that as it will take decades to clean up the unexploded cluster munitions- US cluster munitions have a 30 percent plus failure ( duds) rate.
Vlad’s thermobaric weapons are tearing the Ukies to pieces, no known defense- he has many of them- the West has NONE.
Yet another sign of desperation by the West. The West simply doesn’t realize Vlad still has many “ tools” in his tool box, in quantities unimaginable to the West. The West’s toolbox is just about empty.

No, as stated by Geneva- illegal to use on civilian targets only. The US saturated Iraq with them, kids/ farmers are still getting blown up to this day by these “ UXO” devices- Unexploded Munitions. The US dud rate is 30 percent.
Just one of our 155 Cluster munitions shells carries 66 M42/ M62 series “ bomblets”. I am very, very informed with these nasty weapons from a previous job overseas. The usage of these turns huge areas uninhabitable until EOD teams can clear them.
The US has much blood on their hands- and it will never wash off- ever.
The US has very, very few of these- and ours are designed to be air dropped. Russia has developed many ways to deliver the many types. RPG, grenades, rockets, air dropped.
Russia’s “ Flamethrower “ is thermobaric- now legendary. Most of the Ukie horrendous losses at Artymovsk was by thermobaric and glide bombs.
Have you seen footage of what is left of Artymovsk? It is estimated at least 50-100 Ukie soldiers are buried , unrecoverable , under each and every destroyed high rise. Their losses will never be counted, thousands buried in deep basements covered by rubble.
I would think if we were truly motivated to give the Ukes what they need to win or for e Russia to the bargaining table on more favorable terms, we could mass manufacture cluster bombs in a configuration they could deliver.
We could also mass manufacture thermobaric and in a deliverable configuration by the Ukes. That we are NOT doing this screams volumes that our govt’s insistence that we are doing all we can is a lie. Why?
And what is the real game that we are not allowed to know?
