the average person doesn’t understand the 10th amendment. They think that every issue, abortion or anything else, should be decided in Washington, DC.
I have completely given up on polls.
While I don’t believe 61% of people disapprove of the USSC overturning Roe, I do think it is a very significant, perhaps a majority of the population. That comes from decades of horribly poor civics education and moral decay in America.
I wonder what a real poll result would be?
Biden/harris are making abortion the cornerstone of their campaign for a reason. Women will put them back into the whitehouse on this issue alone. No matter what common sense you go at them with, it won’t matter. Emotion will win every time. I don’t know if republicans can overcome biden and harris hammering away at abortion over an over again.
61% have no idea why Roe was reversed or what the result will be. Heck, no one knows what the result will be, beyond sending the issue back to the states to decide.
I have always been puzzled by the fact that the most radical supporters of abortion seem to be lesbian feminists.
The Supreme Court should issue opinions based on the rule of law, and according to constitutional principles. Public opinion should not factor into it.
How often does the Court issue opinions according to constitutional principles? Sometimes it appears that the liberals on the court, issue opinions which the liberals approve of, regardless of the law or constitutional principles.
In 1861 the majority of Americans north and south either approved of or were neutral on the question of slavery and equal rights for blacks. People forget that even in the North, the Emancipation Proclamation was not embraced by the entire population. The change of focus for the Civil War from preserving the union to emancipating southern slaves was not overwhelmingly popular and without some key Union victories in the summer/early fall of 1864, there was a real possibility that Lincoln was not going to be re-elected.

Questioning for the poll was probably conducted primarily in university teacher’s break rooms at Berkeley, Yale, etc.
I’m curious what the wording of the poll was.
I would phrase it as, “Do you agree that abortion should be a State issue?”
