Titan Five's 'last chance' rescue machinery is flown into Canada airport on colossal US cargo planes... but face 15-hour race across Atlantic and will get to area of missing sub just as emergency air runs out

A battery of heavy machinery and submarines dubbed the 'last chance' for the crew of the Titan tourist submarine arrived in Canada tonight - but it now faces a race against time to help rescuers in the desperate search.

The array of winches, cables and unmanned vehicles capable of going 19,000 feet underwater were delivered to St John's airport in Newfoundland by three US Air Force cargo planes.

It was taken with a police escort to the port where a waiting ship, the Horizon Arctic, was due to set sail at midnight.

Their response time sucks. Red tape
is going to claim the lives of 5 human
beings. Praying that all see the
surface once more.

I wish them the good hunting and best of luck and prayers to those missing

If the structure failed somehow, it would be quick

Yikes

Assuming they’re still alive, those 5 people knowingly and willingly went to one of the absolute most difficult places on the planet to reach. And they did so to get the bragging rights of tooling around hallowed ground and gawking at a grave site.

While I do hope they survive, I don’t have much sympathy for them. If anything kills (-ed) them, it’s their own hubris, not red tape.

Red tape? As opposed to 10,000 sq miles of ocean surface area and 12,500 ft of depth. Searching for a needle in a big stack of needles. Open water searches are notoriously difficult.

The underwater rescue record is 1,575 feet.

One previous tourist called the Titan a "flimsy tin can."

I certainly hope that none of these rescue heroes perishes in their effort to save people who willingly put their lives at risk with such a risky venture.

The US rejected help from another source
that has the means for rescue. Hell yes
red tape. This rescue was told to stand
down. A full 24 hours prior to current
efforts.
10,000 square miles? How would that
submersible have the capability to drift
5,000 miles in any direction given ocean
current speeds and available oxygen supplies
aboard. These people are still breathing,
Pray the current efforts are successful.

10000 sq mi = (100 mi x 100 mi).
I’m guessing 50 mi in each direction from the point where they went down. Does that sound reasonable?

Agree. Many a first responder has given
their life to save another. Hopefully
this story has a good outcome.
Pray for those trapped in this nightmare.

Maybe we should be more worried about why Deep States, plural, seem okay with slow-walking the rescue/recovery effort...

Ummmm, 10,000 square miles = 100 linear miles x 100 linear miles. Think of a square grid 100 miles long on each side.

Yes, pray the current efforts are successful.

Why do very rich people do stupid things like this, anyway? Hope they get rescued. Then bill them for the expenses. Pay your fair share, stupid rich guys.

By FAR the best take on the fatal Titan sub fiasco.
[Yes, fatal.]
Skip the rest, this is the best, by an actual subject matter expert.

They were dead in under 24 hours of losing contact.

They have no air scrubbers or breathing apparatus in event of a fire, smoke etc.

You can’t just add oxygen to a closed tank.

By FAR the best take on the fatal Titan sub fiasco.

It’s along the lines of extreme mountain-climbing. Totally for the climbers’ own benefit, to the detriment of their loved ones if they fail.

1-1/2 miles over target. 1/2 mile before
destination. No way (regardless of
evident math miscalculations) could this
sub drift to the search area of 10,000
square miles.
Last contact was at 10:00 am Sunday.
My guess (sounds of banging metal),is the sub is intact, and somewhere near the
Titanic.
