The National Guard’s mission is domestic emergencies, unlike the US military. Apparently this is beyond your understanding of the differences.

The military could be sent to the border to stop an invasion.

Only if a National Emergency or Insurrection Act is invoked. That is the law, that even Presidents MUST follow.
