Scroll up to the DR border town of Dajabón with 26,000 residents. Nice, neat, tree-lined streets. Pleasant and quiet looking. Then look across the river to the west to the Haitian border town adjacent, Ouanaminthe. A slum of 100,000 with few trees and tenements all packed together, something from a 3rd world country in Africa. Still, they benefit from being allowed to travel across the river to do business in wealthier Dajabón, something that can’t be said for other places in Haiti.

Yes, indeed, quite different. I wish no ill-will on the folks of Haiti. I do hope somehow they are able to pull themselves up by the bootstraps and flourish, but ultimately it will have to be up to them to do it (same with Africa). We Americans can’t be responsible for solving their own long-standing problems, nor be expected to take in millions more of third worlders before they have solved their problems, as it only worsens things for us here.

We went to the DR in Fall of 2019 for an event at a couple of resorts. Had a great time! Resort staff were quite nice and service-oriented.

The problem is the population. There is no fixing that.

Hopefully the remaining gang members won’t decide it’s safer to go to the US as illegal “asylum” seekers.

That would be nice but all we can do is hope not.

Vigilante justice is the direct consequence of a corrupt government not protecting its citizens.

Exactly and ironically, it's the same government that decries vigilante justice so much, that protects and coddles the criminals to the point where crime is so rampant that the citizens resort to it.

As usual, the government is responsible for the mess we're in.

“[Acting PM] Mr. Henry, in a speech last month, urged citizens to lay down their weapons. “I ask my compatriots, despite what they suffered at the hands of the bandits, to keep calm,” he said.” Odd thing though: Mr. Henry didn’t urge the gangs and bandits to lay down THEIR arms and quit killing, torturing, and kidnapping regular citizens ...

Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

“Has been since the blacks butchered 90% of the white and mulatto classes 220 years ago”

In related history, this is the model for what John Brown was hoping that he could incite and it was the reason for his 1859 “raid”.

Worry not—Haiti is coming here—fast. Americans may well be forced to form vigilantes and used a few old gas filled tires to take out gangs with “necklaces” like the fighters in South Africa. Brutal justice may well be all that’s left.

We need some Paul Kerseys...

In May, I watched two different movies titled “Death Wish”.

First was the Charles Bronson version and a few days later was the Bruce Willis one.

Both were excellent movies and got me to thinking about how that would work in some of the cities today.

Probable explanation in #26 above:

Drastically different demographics. Haiti is 95% Black with the remaining 5% being Mulatto and White. Dominican Republic is less than 8% Black, 18% White and the remainder is a Hispanic mix of 74%.

UN renews calls for Haiti intervention force

Since April at least 264 gang members have been killed by vigilante groups.

https://www.france24.com/en/americas/20230707-un-renews-calls-for-haiti-intervention-force-calls-living-conditions-beyond-appalling

It’s so strange to me that the UN wants to step in, in Haiti... now, that vigilantes are dishing out justice to the Haitian gangs. UN: Can’t let that example be set. If the common people were able to restore order through vigilantism, then a corrupt Govt. sympathetic to “UN goals” may not able to be installed.
