We asked DeSantis campaign Communications Director Stephen Lawson to straighten out the Dee/Deh conundrum. It had become the source of debate in our newsroom.
"It's also been a little controversial for us on the campaign trail," Lawson confessed. "He uses Dee-Santis."
But Casey Dee-Santis, seems to use Deh-Santis, right?
Pause.
"Yes," Lawson allowed. And added, "He prefers Dee-Santis."
Whoa. So this is a giant source of great friction between Mr. Dee-Santis and Mrs. Deh-Santis, then?
"I wouldn't go that far," Lawson deadpanned.
The mystery lingers.

You are going back and looking for articles about the pronunciation of someone's name from years ago and posting them as a major issue, and say someone else should be humiliated?

The pronunciation of the family name is usually handed down.
My first college work study job was handing out IDs. I allegedly mangled quite a few last names.
Consider the last name of James Levine, the former music director of the Metropolitan Opera. I was told that he does not use the pronunciation of ‘Levine’ I learned to use in upstate New York State.
As for my French pronunciation, I should not expect anybody to excuse it.
How stupid and petty. Foreign last names can be pronounced differently within a family and no one cares. No one did with our Italian surname anyway. Along with the vowel durations, accenting the first and second syllables was also up for grabs.
