on DeSantis is expected to announce his presidential candidacy later this week but, unless he makes some major adjustments, the Florida governor likely won’t last long in the Republican race, according to a Washington Post columnist.
Eugene Robinson wrote that despite his proclamations that he’s the only Republican who could beat President Joe Biden in 2024, DeSantis’ flagging poll numbers suggest a dramatic course correction is in order.

DeSantis trailed former President Donald Trump by just 13 points in late February, a deficit that’s since ballooned to 37 points.
Robinson wrote: “This trend line is hardly encouraging for DeSantis’s theory of the case.

Robinson argues that DeSantis’ support for far-right policies make it hard to see how he’d appeal to swing voters.
“But how does he imagine his six-week abortion ban, his law letting Floridians carry concealed firearms without a permit, his attempts to squelch free speech on college campuses, and his death-match against the Magic Kingdom will play in those swing states? Why would suburban women who voted for Joe Biden in 2020 vote for Ron DeSantis in 2024,” Robinson writes.
“Great politicians learn from their mistakes and course correct as necessary. DeSantis seems not to understand that going full-speed ahead is a bad idea if you’re approaching a cliff.”

I thought he was ok when he was backing up Trump. But then he showed he has no interest in rectifying the stolen election by jamming Trump right back down their throats.
Then after his treachery, I started learning more about him.
A little too neocon Bushie for my taste. Ryan, McConnell and Fox being all in for him is a bad sign.
I recommend pausing the fake maniacal guffaw.
He generates zero enthusiasm with me.
On the positive side if this happens, Florida gets back the governor that it just voted in.
Simple reality is, the more Desantis is seen by national voters the lower he polls.
I hope the establishment/globalists/Uniparty cut him a big check for making this run, because he’s very likely to harm his long term ambitions far more than any likelihood of winning
Your post seems contradictory to me. I’m sure it’s my fault, though.
The “columnist” in question is a very left Washington Post/ SF Chronicle critter. I am not supporting DeSantis, but Robinson predicting his demise carries about the same weight as a similar warning coming from Jennifer Rubin or Eleanor Clift.
My family is from Florida. We are very active in Florida politics. We campaigned for our governor. We contributed to our governor.
We did so not because he was inspiring. We did so because the alternative, a gay Marxist mayor was simply unacceptable and had to be defeated.
But, Mr. Desantis’total lack of personality and likeability was an apparent liability. He was toast. That is until President Trump endorsed him. The turnaround that endorsement made was astonishing.
Many on this site love to cite his most recent election and totally ignore the initial run. What they want to obscure is the effect of President Trump’s endorsement.
The fact is clear to anyone who has been in Governor Desantis’ presence for any length of time. The man is uninspiring. Lacks any likeability whatsoever.
Governor Desantis makes Ted Cruz look like Mr. Personality personified. And, that’s a tough row to hoe.
This coupled with the fact our governor has a rubber-stamp Republican Legislature which means he has never actually been tested in any serious legislative fight is telling.
It’s apparent Governor Desantis is the great Kryptonite hope of the Never-Trumpers. Hoping his Minime policies in Florida will diminish President Trump’s voter base and thwart President reelection bid.
They could not care less if Governor Desantis actually wins. That’s not their Prime Objective. But, if he did win. They know this ambitious politician is their guy. They own him.
The only reason he is running is because of the political hacks and elites backing him.
He is making the worst political decision that can be made because of that.
He waits till 28 the dust will have settled one way or another with Biden-who might not be the democrat nominee it’ll be RFK, or Trump. Trump will have run out his clock either way by 28 and that will clear the way for DeSantis.
But greedy advice gets in the way of good decisions.

Trump is the one cozying up with McConnell.
But Trump is not an average Republican. He has certainly never been a movement conservative unlike DeSantis or former Vice President Mike Pence, who chaired the influential Republican Study Committee less than a decade before DeSantis arrived in Washington. How else would you explain someone who used to be a registered Democrat, flirted with the reform party, and once explained his pro-abortion views as a product of living in New York and not Iowa?

As a native Floridian and DeSantis supporter, I resent your off-base generalization.
So what. That is their job. All of those consultant types move around.
There's a different vibe with the DeSimps today. A sense of defeatism.
