Bad part there is that the cowboys didn’t have automatic weapons either. They didn’t need them to shoot snakes or hunt game and they were too bulky and heavy for drives on horseback. They may have had a Gatling gun but that required a tripod or tied to wheeled carry. It was invented in 1861.

Some scholars consider the middle 1880’s as the start of the disappearance of the cowboy. They carried sidearms, generally colts, and the main rifles of choice were a Sharps for hunting and a Henry to kill predators. The first automatic weapon for the military didn’t come in till 1917.

My main theme was design....a rifle today with a pistol grip...oh my...it must be an automatic.

Seems the Mexicans always got hold of the gatling guns. Si!
