The findings also highlight the impacts of climate change on resources in the Dry Tortugas, the NPS said.
The facilities were originally built on dry land, but dynamic conditions caused many of the islands to move over time, and climate change and major storm events have even caused some islands to settle and erode beneath the waves.
Climageddon sea level rise strikes again. Curses!
They saved the comment about climate change to the very end because it likely wasn’t and it disappeared long before global warming was discussed.
“Divers find underwater hospital, cemetery off coast of Key West”
Must have been following Waze directions.
Oh, wait, “Divers,” not “Drivers.” Sorry.
"He was Number One!"
Over the last twenty years Iâve seen the islands down there change shape, even year to year, by the storms and waves that blow thru there. loggerhead key has changed its shape mostly due to the park service cutting down the trees they didnât like because âthey werenât native to the areaâ. Itâs just nature.
Ocean Sand bars change, not climate change, just natural wind, tide, erosion and currents.
All of that part of the Keys is built on marl - a kind of white coral
It was not an underwater hospital, it was a former hospital under water.
Thanks, previous post of this didn’t explain.
Must’ve been all those SUVs back then.
Not enough Marines to capsize.
During the outbreak of Yellow Fever at Fort Jefferson, when the prison doctor died of the disease, Dr. Samuel Mudd, who had been convicted for his alleged role in the assassination of President Lincoln, took over that position, and helped stem the disease. He was eventually pardoned in 1869 by President Johnson, for his work at the Fort. Michael O’Laughlen, who had also been convicted for being involved in the assassination conspiracy, died of Yellow Fever while imprisoned at Fort Jefferson.
These people are fools, and purposefully fooling people. Little islands around the ocean come and go all the time, due to storms primarily. SMH.
