Ukraine's troops fight off 'massive' Russian attacks in Bakhmut with World War I-era machine guns and sniper traps

Ukrainian forces have used Maxim machine guns, a weapon often associated with World War I, to mow down frontal assaults by Russian troops in the battle for Bakhmut.

"It only works when there is a massive attack going on," a Ukrainian soldier identified as Borys, 48, recently told BBC News of the Maxim gun. "Then it really works."

"We use it every week," Borys added.

Ukrainian forces have found the Maxim M1910 — was first introduced in 1910 (the initial version of the gun emerged in the 1880s) and employed by the Imperial Russian Army during World War I — useful in the fight against the Russians. Ukraine's troops have modified the guns with modern add-ons such as optics and suppressors, according to reporting from Task and Purpose.

You mean Business Insider isn’t reporting it was shovel technology they were using to fend them off?

Yeah. I’m sure that mannequin is fooling everyone.

WW1 hardware. Where the EFF is all the stuff we sent them?

Folks have been played.

On a side note, video of dude shooting machine gun. Interesting that they do t show what he’s shooting at. This is the ultimate talk wagging the dog. And far too many on here still believe this BS. Amazing.

“Ukrainian forces have used Maxim machine guns, a weapon often associated with World War I, to mow down frontal assaults by Russian troops in the battle for Bakhmut.”

I'm glad Ukrainian forces have not been forced to fight with A10s.

A10s are obsolete and would not be able to stand up to Russia's modern Air Force. A10s would be worthless against everyone and everything.

I read that just recently.

‘WAG THE DOG” to keep the American taxpayer money flowing into the ‘foreign aid’ that never leaves the US, but is simply redistributed among Biden family members, Obama, Hillary, other deep staters.

Next we’ll hear how the Ukrainians are winning with pitchforks and garden hoes.......

Russia has made its state prestige dependent on this fly-shit town Bakhmut. They now have to send human waves trying to capture it in order to not look like losers and Ukrainians just shoot them.

All you need is a warehouse of clean linked 8mm Mauser, peferrerably manufactured after WWII.
OTOH, the original nazis were still wiped out with them.

I know that’s the mythology, but is there any evidence of WWII style “human wave” attacks? Sounds like propaganda.

Well, A-10s do require air superiority, which is definitely not the case.

Meanwhile, the Ukies now hold less than a square kilometer of Bakmut, no where to run, no where to hide. No roads out, except for flat muddy fields. Vlads net of Ukie prisoners is expected to make the Marioupol Azov Nazi haul pale in comparison.

That said, both western and Russian experts agree that the fleeing Ukies will be “ reduced” by up to 60 percent, much higher if Vlad can time deploying his new glide bombs on those fleeing. The slaughter continues, unless, like in Marioupol, they surrender.

The Duran, Dima, and a few other western sources place the number trapped about 6,000, of course impossible to know. Time will tell. Hope Vlad remains restrained.

Not to sound too cynical but the war might end and yet Western media might still be reporting on new battles for several months, or even years.

I doubt very much that the Maxim machine gun has lost its lethality with the passage of time.
