President Biden is facing pressure from within his own party to send fighter jets and longer range missiles to Ukraine, as Russia continues to inflict daily death and destruction through aerial attacks.
Members of congress from both parties have called on Biden to supply Ukraine with long-range rocket artillery, called ATACMS, and modern F-16 fighter jets. The administration has so far refused, saying that the U.S. can’t spare any ATACMS systems and that jets aren’t a priority.
But the U.S. pledge in January to provide M1 Abrams main battle tanks to Ukraine earlier this spring, after months of opposition from the White House, has given cause for optimism that the administration may come around to providing even heavier weaponry.

A-10s?..............................
Yeah let’s get this whole end of the apocalyptic end of the world thing done and behind us.
The borders in Europe moved back and forth for a thousand years without any help from the USA.
Let the Euros send jets if they want.
A bunch of FReepers hate the A-10 so why not send them to Ukraine where they can kill Russians?
Cute how The Hill acts like it’s up to Biden. If the people actually running the country decide it helps them in 24 they will send the jets and the missiles. Biden cannot remember where he was last week let alone make strategic decisions
“A-10s?”
Makes sense to me. The Air Force, once again, has stated they don’t want them (the like the expensive, high performance, shiny systems instead). So why not send them to Ukraine for disposal - far cheaper than having to dispose of them in the US.
Why do people pretend F-16’s are invincible?
They can be shot down just as quick as any other modern fighters. Did we forget Serbia, a 2nd world military at best, shot down a stealth fighter early in NATO’s 1999 bombing [& NATO went high altitude as a result]? In 1999! Think the russkies learned anything or created better defensive capabilities in the last 24 years? Operational hypersonic missiles? Triple layer integrated anti-air? Not even the USA has that capability.
Like the vaunted HIMARS, the russkies will quickly determine countermeasures [if they don’t already have them] rendering this newest, greatest ‘wonder weapon’ another failure. When they do, won’t they pass that info on to the CCP? Or does no-one think that far ahead?
Very, very stupid.
Not without air superiority and well-suppressed AA.
F16s are extremely vulnerable to ground fire. Just like the much overrated P51s.
From Gale.com history website:
The United States created the Military Assistance and Advisory Group, Indochina, in 1950 to process, monitor, and evaluate American military aid to the French forces fighting in Southeast Asia. The French forces resented MAAG’s presence and hindered its operations.
From the JFK Library website:
This effort was foundering when John F. Kennedy became president. In May 1961, JFK authorized sending an additional 500 Special Forces troops and military advisors to assist the pro Western government of South Vietnam.
By the end of 1962, there were approximately 11,000 military advisors in South Vietnam; that year, 53 military personnel had been killed.
Once we send F-16s to the Ukes, all hell breaks loose w/ Rooskies and CCP. We don’t need that crap, in the pitiful state we’re in, thanks to the leftists/socialists/communists/Marxists/fascists/anarchists/ BLM etc etc etc.
Why don’t these Democrats get out there on the front lines. They’re move than willing to lead from behind. Pathetic.
The Dems in question are requesting F-16s.
They always ask for more that they will actually settle for.......................
Jets?? Ya this ends well //sarc
Shills for the military-industrial (political) complex. The only fully functional sector of the US Economy.... America is quite simply exporting death and destruction. War is America’s only real business these days.
How about clearing out the Air Force boneyard in Arizona? All that hardware waisting away. Not all of it is disabled.
....what kind of learning curve would Ukranian pilots require to transition from Soviet-era fighters to our F-16s...?? you just don’t step from one into the other without sone intensive training...not like stepping from a Ford into a Chevy....there are so many variables involved....sounds like virtual signaling on the part of (ignorant....) Dems to me....
