The Philadelphia mayor’s race is a five-way tie, poll shows

It’s all tied up.

With 18 days to go until the Democratic mayoral primary, the first nonpartisan public poll of the race shows a dead heat between the top five contenders.

The survey of likely Democratic voters commissioned by the good government group the Committee of Seventy and several partners found that Rebecca Rhynhart (18%), Cherelle Parker (17%), Helen Gym (15%), Allan Domb (14%), and Jeff Brown (11%) led the pack.

The poll’s credibility interval, which is similar to a margin of error, was plus or minus 3.8 percentage points. All five top contenders fell within that margin.

Many respondents — about 20% — said they were still making up their mind.

It’s so cute that they think polls mean something useful in our current political environment.

Jeff Brown at 11% has most of the police endorsements. Dome, is pushing the small things ( arrest shoplifter, replace streetlights, get rid of stranded car, several ads about schools.) Those are the closest you’ll get to normal.

I live in an area covered by the Philadelphia television stations. I’ve seen a lot of commercials for all of the candidates. They talk about fighting crime, fixing streetlights, potholes, and the 9-1-1 system. All are legitimate problems. However, none of them have spoken about addressing the situation along Kensington Avenue. For those of you unfamiliar with the area, Kensington Avenue is one large open air drug market with people sleeping on sidewalks and stumbling down the street like zombies. It is so bad, the government of Mexico (yes, Mexico!) had been using videos of Kensington Avenue to to warn their own citizens of the dangers of drug abuse.

Whichever one is the absolute worst will likely win.

I don’t care if the GOPs prospects are hopeless. They still need to field a candidate in these races.

They're all Democrats, so the one who is the most brazen about cheating will win. As always.

Some are ok Alan domb is a self made millionaire real estate guy. very good. Gym is a nut case. She openly criticized a chinese food truck named “Wheely Wheely Good” owned by two chinese kids. she criticized the requirement to put up protected barriers in check cashing and small shops. the rest are probably ok. Jeff Browns owns shop-rites in philly. a frog would be better than Jim Kenney.

One would hope it would discourage folks down there from crossing the border.

Good to know. I haven't seen any ads for David Oh. I've seen several different ads for Alan Domb, but didn't see one addressing Kensington Avenue (I'm not disputing what you're saying, just saying I didn't see it.)
