U.S. government personnel in Sudan are to be evacuated, sources familiar with the matter told CBS News. The evacuation of roughly 70 American citizens working for the U.S. government in Sudan has been in the planning stages all week, and Sudan's military said Saturday that they expected countries including the U.S. to begin evacuating "in the coming hours."
U.S. evacuation from Khartoum will include roughly 70 U.S. personnel but that the hundreds of American citizens in Sudan — 500 was the number shared with congressional sources — will not be included, sources familiar with the U.S. planning have told CBS News. The State Department acknowledges that some records show 16,000 US citizens may be in Sudan, but officials consider those figures to be inflated.

I expected it to be a weekend operation when the public isn’t paying attention to the news Biden can’t have bad publicity.

Sudan’s army chief said his troops would facilitate the evacuation of American, British, Chinese and French diplomats and citizens. But the U.S. Embassy said it was “not currently safe to undertake a U.S. government-coordinated evacuation of private U.S. citizens.”

Hang on folx! Here we go again!
Keeping US personnel trapped on the embassy grounds is a big chip for both sides in this civil war. Biden will pay a huge ransom to both sides for a temporary truce and being allowed to have a well photographed evacuation to ships off shore. Biden and Blincken will brag about their diplomatic prowess but won’t admit the amount of cash paid out. IMHO ~50 million.
What is this now, two embassy evacuations in under two years?
The other being Afghanistan back in 2021.
yes.
OMG.
Is this turning even more into Carter II?
This is making Jimmuh look like brilliant statesman.
Doing what?
Yeah, another chance for Super Joe Biden to be America’s hero.
Will Americans be taken hostage as in Iran under Jimmy Carter so long ago?
American pride and strength are so diminished now.
Thanks. That update if true means the 70 are out in time.
But....
“records show 16,000 US citizens may be in Sudan, but officials consider those figures to be inflated.”
Inflated like the prices of gas and food and rent in the US?
Next like Afghanistan the White House will say “maybe the people left are ones who want to stay behind.” As they screamed outside the airstrip, fought with soldiers and begged to get on the last planes out.
I have a lot more sympathy for the Afghan translators than the ruling class dual citizens who are on the wrong side of a civil war.
No American blood for paper-citizens of African nations. Enough already. Go fight for your own country.
You make an important point.
Those supposed Citizens were not there under duress. How many were Dual citizens?
A have an acquaintance who is a German National and works for one of the largest construction companies in the world -which I won’t name. Years ago they were working in South Sudan and they heard a credible report that a force from the North was heading their way, among them would be Muslim fundamentalist for sure. He said they held a vote and it was to flee south. They heard later the group took their site. Had they stayed at best they would have been held for random, worst they’d be dead.
=> Ransom.
