A new report echoed by Maggie Haberman (the original is by the far-left Financial Times) is claiming that a major donor is dropping plans to back Ron DeSantis in 2024. A closer look reveals that there’s a lot more to the story, though.
Haberman, who has long sourced reports directly from the Trump camp, pushed a quote from Thomas Peterffy in which he states that DeSantis has become too extreme on social issues. He cites “book banning” and abortion as the two reasons he’s supposedly backing away.

The red flags just jump off the page when you read that quote. One, what kind of Republican donor is turned off by a candidate being pro-life? Two, the “book banning” line is straight out of the left’s playbook, and it also happens to be false. No books are banned in Florida. Any parent can choose to go buy any book they’d like their child to read. That Peterffy would even mention that says a lot about what’s really going on here.

I'm not sure about the donors but I am pretty sure that most GOP politicians in congress would always rather not deal with someone who is actually pro-life and not just flapping his gums with empty rhetoric about it.
There should be a “hold fire” before any nomination for the Presidency is even considered. Ron DeSantis has a term as governor to be ongoing until January 2027, and he has plenty to do right here.
Governor DeSantis is not rigorously anti-abortion. If done early and under medical care, it is still acceptable. But there is a much greater responsibility placed on those with the XX chromosome configuration to more carefully consider their actions. A menstrual period thirty days late ought to be a warning sign.
There must be this fine line between book banning and ridding parochial schools of pornographic “literature” - I must be missing something.

The easiest and most effective way to differentiate yourself from the pack is to go on the attack. It energizes your core supporters creates clear distinctions.
Hungarian-born billionaire Thomas Peterffy had previously said he was 'looking forward' to financing the 44-year-old lawmaker's probable White House bid.
But he told the Financial Times on Saturday that he and 'a bunch of friends are holding our powder dry' because of the governor's 'stance on abortion and book banning'.
Earlier this week, DeSantis signed-off a new six week abortion ban in Florida worrying many centrist conservatives who see such draconian rules as vote losers.
Peterffy, who founded digital trading platform Interactive Brokers, said he didn't agree with the governor's stance on the issues. But he was more supportive of DeSantis in his battle with Disney. The company has opposed the governor's 'Don't Say Gay' law, which restricts speech about gender and sexuality in schools.
Top GOP donor says plans to help finance Florida governor's 2024 run are 'on hold'
So, donors already are arm twisting desantis to their way of thinking.....
They are looking to give to candidates are likely sure things at winning elections, so they get their money's worth...
And using their donations to make sure desantis is beholden to them...
Lol... who could not have seen this happening to desantis, esp. after associating with the deep swamp GOPe and hedgefund people?
p.s. a search on opensecrets showed no contributions from him to Trump
Because banning pornography from school kids and preventing genocide of the unborn is so “radical”.
Oh look - I’m a radical lol
Radical = Normal
Radical = Decent
Now it makes sense
and the media works again............................It's amazing how uninformed too many people with loads of money are.
They must spend all of their time paying attention to counting and acquiring money.
There are other real reasons to not support DeSantis.
I would cite lack of enthusiasm for MAGA as #1.
“One, what kind of Republican donor is turned off by a candidate being pro-life?”
Most of them. It’s why despite many GOP majorities Planned Parenthood is still funded.
The donor class in New York and California back the GOP because they get tax cuts and deregulation, but on social issues they are left-wing Democrats.
Many Republican politicians are pro-abortion.
A lot of Republican voters, also don't like folks cranking out babies they can't afford with their tax dollars paying for them.
Probably just as well. I’d hate to think DeSantis was being influenced by a pro-abort donor.
I have heard “I don’t want my tax dollars to pay for other people’s babies.”
and
“Its liberals aborting other liberals.”
but the fact remains that
murdering a baby between conception and birth is murdering a baby between conception and birth regardless of the socioeconomic status or political ideology of the babies’ parents.
Agree, but unfortunately we are not at the point where a majority truly see it that way, it's going to take time.
