I must admit that many of the first amendment audits you see on youtube and elsewhere are eye openers. The militarization of the police is out of hand but maybe not in some areas because we have been importing the most violent SOB’s that exist from Mexico and South America.

Is it the person who reports the incident and get the address wrong? Does the dispatcher get it wrong? Do the responding police get it wrong? With all the technology now, can this happen so often?

Qualified immunity is a little overblown by BLM and is not the blanket they pretended it was. Anyway, New Mexico does not have qualified immunity. I think they were one of the first two states to completely eliminate it. And even when they did, this would have been prosecuted, and the city was/is on the hook for a massive civil lawsuit.

Why didn’t they use the doorbell, it has a slightly less ominous effect late at night than knocking.

They were out to investigate a complaint. When there was no response to knocking at the door, they asked dispatch to telephone the "RP" (reporting party) and have them come to the door. That they all subsequently backed away out of the porch light and waited in the dark with guns drawn doesn't make much sense to me.
If you're not getting an answer when someone has called you out, the first thing you do is double-check that you have the right address and that that address matches the one you're standing at.
How ironic: you sat on your ass to write a complaint. Yeah, that's not all I do, either.
The homeowner should have emptied his gun through the door, unless, of course, it was a steel door. He would go to prison for shooting police officers but he would maybe be alive. That kind of error should be punished by jail time. That would maybe make police officers more careful about reading a 3 as an 8.
All those involved have received job offers from the DOJ.
