The United States on Wednesday imposed sanctions on a Hungary-based bank linked to Russia, marking a new low point in Hungary’s relationship with Washington.
The U.S. Treasury Department announced the penalties, which will target the International Investment Bank (IIB), a controversial institution located in Budapest with ties to the Russian state. The bank’s presence in Hungary has drawn the ire of Western officials, who fear it could be used for Russian intelligence operations inside Europe.
Speaking to reporters in Budapest on Wednesday afternoon, U.S. Ambassador to Hungary David Pressman said Washington had repeatedly shared information with Hungarian counterparts about how Russia could use the bank to expand its influence — to no avail.
“Unlike other NATO allies previously engaged with this Russian entity,” the ambassador said, “Hungary has dismissed the concerns of the United States government regarding the risks its continued presence poses to the alliance.”
The IIB was originally created in 1970 to foster trade within the Soviet bloc and moved its headquarters from Moscow to Budapest in 2019 despite worries from Hungary’s allies.
“We have concerns,” Pressman said, “about the continued eagerness of Hungarian leaders to expand and deepen ties with the Russian Federation.”
In addition to the broader IIB sanctions, the U.S. will also penalize three individuals affiliated with the bank’s leadership — former board chair Nikolay Kosov, a Russian citizen, and two current senior management officials, Imre Laszlóczki, a Hungarian, and Georgy Potapov, a Russian.

If you have a world reserve currency it is supposed to be stable and usable by all. It's probably not a good idea to repeatedly use it as a weapon.
This comes right after the Brandon administration looks to sanction Uganda because they will not bend the knee to the globohomo.
How many countries and institutions can we kick out of our system before they decide to use an alternative?
“”“Hungary has dismissed the concerns of the United States government regarding the risks its continued presence poses to the alliance.””
Hungary has more experience in handling the Russians than the US has....go ahead and insult a country that fought for their independence from Russia...Morons - nothing but morons!
Government should really limit the number people/businesses/countries they sanction.
It only took them two years to bring America to ruin.
Neocons continue to sow the seeds of their own dethronement.
They pridefully cannot see it.
Now the idiots in DC are sanctioning EU members and NATO allies.
“...as drawn the ire of Western officials, who fear it could be used for Russian intelligence operations...”
While at the same time, have no concerns about all the Chinese intelligence operations going on in the USA and Europe. (i.e. the spy balloon that Puppet Biden allowed to travel across the entire US mainland)
The US deep state is so big and bloated, it does not "think" and it does not deal in nuance. Its Washington DC, so for apparatchiks, existing policy is the only format.
This will not play well in Hungary, just as it does not play well with the BRICS.
What would Americans think if China publicly dictated which US banks are allowed to deal India, Japan or Taiwan?
Wrong...
Marking a new high point by the American Political Left in their attempt to destroy Conservative Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
The Left has already destroyed Conservative President Bolsonaro in Brazil, and they are working over time to destroy Netanyahu in Israel.
Now the idiots in DC are sanctioning EU members and NATO allies.

You forget they also blew up Germany’s lifeblood- the pipeline. An act of war.
Fact is the sanctions ( near 3,000) have all failed forcing the world to avoid/ flee U.S. financial hegemony.
India’s finance minister stated they would no longer hold US securities for fear of Biden’s war cheerleaders turning on them. The EU is fracturing, the world is now preparing for an “ irrelevant “ US, and wealth is moving East, away from the West at an amazing rate.
Prepare accordingly.
Russian ties? They're not so bad...vibrant colors.
The sanctions are on a bank violating the Russian sanctions. The bank is not the EU nor NATO
“How many countries and institutions can we kick out of our system before they decide to use an alternative?”

Our country is being run by a bunch of idiots.
So Hungary is choosing its own path. What’s with that?
Don’t those Magyars know they are but a minor province in the new globalist empire?
Nailed it!
When the true consequences of this begin to bite, the neocons and deep-state will be forced to ramp-up their oppression of Americans here at home.
Capital controls, travel bans, asset seizures, strict first and second amendment limitations - its ALL coming.
The sanctions are on a bank violating the Russian sanctions. The bank is not the EU nor NATO

The US is obviously free to sanction anyone they want, but how many non-Russian customers does this bank service? I suppose the government felt that it was enough to warrant the sanctions, but knowing the vindictive nature of the political Left it would not surprise me if this is unwise.
I watch China’s strategy also.
They now control almost all ports in South America.
China is the largest trading partner of Brazil.
For a hundred years, western institutions loaned money and took over assets in the South.
Once everything is in place in the alternative financial system, and these same countries know they will not be shut out of future banking (in the new system), they will likely renounce the debt they have to the west, and start over. They will benefit from their own resources and lower debt load, and the west will suffer loss.
And of course, China will benefit.
Also, most zeepers cannot see this happening.
Biden determined to punish the president and people of Hungary for their conservatism, independence, their protection of their culture and their children; which makes us look bad.
