They will mandate it. If they do, it needs to start with police, but also FBI, ATF, IRS and any and all other federal departments that carry.

I believe that some states already have. As soon as such a ‘smart gun’ becomes commercially available, sales are to be restricted to only those kinds of firearms. I’m sure police will be exempted from the requirement.
Government agencies should be the first to be required to adopt such technology. Kind of serve as a test bed for the general population.
