Walmart just announced they will close half their Chicago stores because they lose "tens of millions" every year

Welp, there's one more Democrat city losing America's most popular retail chain because they refuse to do anything about crime.

Recently, Walmart closed their last remaining store in the Commie paradise of Portland, and now the retail giant is announcing that they are closing 4 of their 8 stores in the metropolis of Chicago.

Here's Walmart's explanation for why they're closing half of the stores in Chiraq:

The simplest explanation is that collectively our Chicago stores have not been profitable since we opened the first one nearly 17 years ago – these stores lose tens of millions of dollars a year, and their annual losses nearly doubled in just the last five years. The remaining four Chicago stores continue to face the same business difficulties, but we think this decision gives us the best chance to help keep them open and serving the community.

Their losses DOUBLED in just the last five years? Hmm, I wonder what bank-breaking things have happened in the last five years?

It couldn't be that five years ago, in 2018, the City of Chicago artificially increased the minimum wage by nearly 60%, only to continue to increase year after year from that time.

Surely that Democrat policy only made the stores more profitable, right?

And it couldn't have anything to do with the tremendous crime wave that's swept the United States since the George Floyd riots!

Chicago used to be one of the great American cities. Even when it was run by the machine politics of Mayor Daly it wasn't as bad as it is today under Lightfoot and the new mayor Brandon Johnson who will continue bad policy.

All of this is going down in Chicago as the Democrats plan to hold the DNC in the Democrat city.

And those who have made a nice living by Walmart allowing them to steal what and whenever they want...will move on to richer feeding grounds. Namely, the suburbs.

The Zombies are on the move. And they're coming for me and you. Watch your six folks. And don't go out unarmed.

Food desert! as Moochelle says. Rob and kill all the merchants and then complain that they won't serve your community.

I do believe people like Moochelle are willingly blind and stupid. They may even have good brains...but they refuse to use them.

I know plenty of privileged white folks who are just like that. God gave them a nice brain...but He won't insist that they use it.

No, the minimum wage isn’t driving out WalMart, and if it were, good riddance. If you can’t pay FT, adult employees anything above the Chicago minimum wage, then as a taxpayer, I don’t want to continue paying for your workers’ shortfall between what you pay them and what it costs to live in Chicago.

But let me be clear: Walmart already pays as much as $19/hour to start, even where the minimum wage is the federal minimum. (It can be as low as $14/hr... but even that, which is based on much cheaper places to live ... is close to teh Chicago minimum wage.)

No, I imagine the losses are due to merchandise losses: the whole nation is experiencing a shoplifting craze. One stolen $3,000 computer can cost the same as 200 minimum-wage hours.

“Serving the community “ = continuing to be a source of goods for shoplifters

Retail shrink is up to $95 billion per year. That’s minimum wage for 2.5 million workers.

You’d think at some point that city gov and LEO would would DO SOMETHING to stop, prosecute and lock up shop lifters and repeat offenders.

I assume that Walmart represents a HUGE % of sales in these communities as well a a HUGE employer.

Not a problem.

The City of Chicago will just impose a “food desert” tax on the remaining stores and drive them out of business too.

Is this not a simple and direct example of “Atlas Shrugged.” Industry and commercial entities are not required by law to remain in an area and harvested by the grifters and thugs and — oh yes — Lefty politicians.
