While a number of Donald Trump’s Capitol Hill allies have been quick to defend the former president and criticize the indictment, one moderate Republican told CNN he trusted the legal system.
“I believe in the rule of law," said Rep. Don Bacon of Nebraska. "I think we have checks and balances and I trust the system.”
Bacon said it was important to let the process play out.
“We have a judge. We have jurors. There is appeals. So I think in the end, justice will be done. If he’s guilty it will show up. But if not, I think that will be shown too,” Bacon told CNN.
Bacon stressed that his statements were not about whether he supported a Trump indictment or not, but about protecting the legal system.
“It’s not that I support or not support it. I just think our system works and I’m not going to question it. I don’t like the attacks on the overall legal system,” he said.

"I trust that they will never come after me like this because I vote with them most of the time. And this is why I vote with them most of the time, so they won't come after me like this."

RINO bacon.
Time to excise and replace.
This is the problem
Republicans will not fight. A new political party is needed.
And yet again.....another example of why I increasingly say......there are no more political solutions.
When the only politicians offered up have the IQ of a dog turd.....what is the point?
The "system" is only as good as the people who operate within it. While agree with the congressman in theory, when you have a system run by unethical people, you will get an unethical system. As more and more people are now realizing that, things unfortunately can get real ugly real fast.
Moderate House GOP member: “I trust the system”

CNN worked overtime to find a Republican that they could label “moderate”. He just happens to be one guy that could possibly be open to prosecuting a former president for the first time in US history...very “moderate”, of course.
In the communist satellite countries, they always had an “opposition” party; in Hungary this was called the Peasant’s Party and they were allowed to take dissenting positions on issues of minor importance, such as the proper labeling for processed chickens. It was all a show to the West, yes we have democracy. Mr. Bacon and that odious Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas along with most of the so-called Rs in the Senate would be exemplar members of the Peasant’s Party.
I guess it’s time to indict Bill Clinton for the Flowers payoff. And how about the huge sum tax payers paid to all the women congressmen fornicated with?
Elected Republicans are trying like hell to wrestle the party away from Donald Trump, and they are too stupid to realize it is stuff like this that pushed their voters to him, gutless wimps with absolutely no fight in them. And I for one am not going back to holding my nose for the lesser of two evils.
In other words, I’m a coward and refuse to take a stand.
I think your comment sums up the attitude of a lot of them, as well as its motivation: fear.
In all fairness to them, they didn’t sign up for this. They are mediocrities who never thought that US politics would take this turn. They were just going to be able to coast along, go along, and rely on the current to carry them along.
They ignored it as it got worse. Now that the storm has truly blown up, they don’t know what to do; they are completely unable to deal with it. So they pretend it’s not happening.
Joe Scarborough should be indicted for murder, but he says what he does to remain obedient and in favor with the deep state.
They all do.
“Moderates” never heard of lawfare or of “the punishment is the process.”
Because his ilk will never insist on decent behavior — since they refuse to acknowledge the presence of the indecent — the process must be reformed by better men.
RINO! we will n ow find out which Republican is for us and who is against us? Trump 2024
Our system of government cannot compensate for a populace within which approximately half are unashamedly immoral, arrogant, self-serving, devious, dishonest, and just flat evil. That was what John Adams meant when he said, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” Our system of self-government depends upon an educated, informed, and most of all morally self-restrained populace. As Adams said, once we no longer have that moral character in our people our Constitution, and our system of government in total, is “wholly inadequate” to govern them. Checks and balances help, and were put there because the Founders certainly understood that even the best men are far from angels, but they cannot mitigate against total, devious, craven evil.
He, and his contemporaries knew that if we lost our moral compass we would one day be faced with the the terrible choice of letting the nation crumble or taking it back through more “kinetic” means. They provided a system that works beautifully so long as the people are moral and God-fearing, and they provided the components of an alternative plan should the people fall into degeneracy.
Stick joe and the painter in jail where they true belong and the system will be restoration bound.
There will be no neutral corners in this heavy weight title fight.
People like this guy will learn this very quickly.
