Read a WW2 account from german soldiers about russians. They started feeling pretty sorry for themselves because the russians seemed to have unending supply of artillery , tanks and troops. Everyone seems to agree battle for stalingrad in late 1942 was turning point of war and yet, it wasn’t until may 1945 that they planted their flag over berlin. War can be a slow grinding process. The germans in WW1 never captured verdun but forced french to bleed their forces white defending it. I think it’s a pretty good parallel to bahkmut battle.

so then why can’t Russia capture Bahkmut?

Why would they want to do that? They just captured Soledar and occupy 70% of Bakmut, both of which have been fortified with the best of US/NATO for over eight years! And they are destroying hundreds of Ukes and their equipment every single day. That sure sounds like winning to me!

It's called a war of attrition, and that's their goal and they are over-achieving that goal. Heck, even the clown Zelensky says it is so (CLICK HERE)

And don't forget they are accomplishing all of this with a bunch of rag-tag ex-prisoners and losers.

By the way, the rag-tag group of misfits are not fighting the Ukes -- they are fighting the US & NATO. Don't forget that!

Hey Brandon, you better hope the real Ruskies don't show up!

Russia doesn’t have the population base and comparatively speaking, Russia is a much smaller country in terms of population than many other countries. For example, Bangladesh has more people at 142 million.
They might not run out of shells, but they could run out of recruits very soon. Then, holding the country is another matter even with a puppet government, an occupied Ukraine would be a hotbed for revolt.
The trouble is that we really don’t know what the truth is insofar as who is really winning. It’s been over a year and Russia hasn’t appeared to have achieved its goals which would probably be annexation of eastern Ukraine, a dictated peace treaty and installation of a puppet government.

I don’t think it’s really been worth it for Russia. They now face in a long term pariah status with losses in trade with the West. Whether they can make up these economic losses with China and non aligned nations is uncertain.

We are watching the type of tragedy that could only be hatched by Ivy-league idiots (our govt is full of them).

We will never run out of money because we print it by the truck.

Ukraine will run out of blood and they are now stuck in a type of warfare that favors the bear (artillery and trench lines).

Our government is prepared to give their friends in the military industrial complex as much of my childrens money as it takes so long as their is one last pint of Ukrainian blood.

Their corruptocrats and ours are growing their wealth by continuing this senseless bloodshed. Would be interesting to see the “campaign donations” here in the US.

It is insane. Russia will NEVER lose this war and people can’t see the truth of it. Why? Because they ARE prepared to use nuclear weapons if necessary. If you don’t believe that you are naive’ beyond belief.

Even if the Ukrainians could somehow snatch victory from the ashes of their nation with shells and bullets Putin will react with nukes because it is his (and he views it as his nation) demise.

"so then why can’t Russia capture Bahkmut?
if Russia is so “dominant”?
"
I'm no expert, but maybe since they are occupying the high ground around the city and their artillery controls the roads in and out, they would rather not flatten the residential areas so the Russian speaking population will have something left to come back to.

WW2 is not a good comparison with this war
1. Russia was on the defensive fighting on its own soil for 3 years.
2. Germany was fighting on 2 fronts and US came in about 6 months after Russia was invaded.
3. At the time in 1941-45, Russia was the largest country in Europe. It had a large wartime economy and produced an incredible number of T34s.
4. The distance covered by the Russian army from the outskirts of Moscow, the Volga, and Leningrad to Berlin was much greater than eastern Ukraine to Kiev.

The Russians performance in WW2 was far superior that it has been in this war.

Their job is to gum-up rational discussions on critical issues. Some of their accounts were dormant for 7 years here, so I expect that they’ll slinker off again and work other sites, once their Ukraine work has concluded.

Russian pundits say the purpose is to let Ukraine keep putting soldiers in there then blast them with artillery.

If you remember one of the stated purposes of the special military operation was to demilitarize Ukraine.

IDK it’s just what’s claimed.

Yes, I have seen that and didn't understand why some freepers that have been here for years are reappearing?

Maybe they are deceased and a woke family member has taken over their various social media favorites?

Maybe the Russian guns will wear out after a while? So much use will cause the barrels to warm as they overheat? In time the whole of The Dombass will look like a Verdun Moonscape so when Russia get it—it will be worthless.

It’s been over a year and Russia hasn’t appeared to have achieved its goals which would probably be [...]

The capitulation of Ukraine.

Annexing territory isn't an accomplishment until the nation from which it is ripped accedes to it.

As long as Ukraine keeps fighting, Russia has not achieved any of its goals.

Ri-ight! Putin's military strategy is guided largely by humanitarian considerations!

Well, this was Napoleon’s way of fighting. Get the enemy to (stupidly) line up and then pummel them with artillery.

It works! All you spend is gunpowder and iron — and you slaughter the enemy. If you bunch up you might as well hang out a target.
