Why climate ‘doomers’ are replacing climate ‘deniers’
The Washington Post ^ | March 24, 2023 | By Shannon Osaka

Posted on 03/24/2023 8:20:04 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

When Sean Youra was 26 years old and working as an engineer, he started watching documentaries about climate change. Youra, who was struggling with depression and the loss of a family member, was horrified by what he learned about melting ice and rising extreme weather. He started spending hours on YouTube, watching videos made by fringe scientists who warned that the world was teetering on the edge of societal collapse — or even near-term human extinction. Youra started telling his friends and family that he was convinced that climate change couldn’t be stopped, and humanity was doomed.

In short, he says, he became a climate “doomer.”

“It all compounded and just led me down a very dark path,” he said. “I became very detached and felt like giving up on everything.”

That grim view of the planet’s future is becoming more common. Influenced by a barrage of grim U.N. reports — such as the one published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change earlier this week — and negative headlines, a group of people believe that the climate problem cannot, or will not, be solved in time to prevent all-out societal collapse. They are known, colloquially, as climate “doomers.” And some scientists and experts worry that their defeatism — which could undermine efforts to take action — may be just as dangerous as climate denial.

For his part, Youra has advice for those who are suffering from the same sort of fatalism that he once felt. “Stop engaging excessively with negative climate change content online and start engaging in your community,” he said. “You can be one of those voices showing there is support for the solutions.”

Eat drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die.

Just for grins, what is the source for the above?

“I became very detached and felt like giving up on everything.”

He'll be fine after finding out that it's all a scam. May need to back away from the Youtube.

“Eat, drink, and be merry in your toil” is from Ecclesiastes. But as a kid, it was “Eat, drink, and be merry at the DQ - Dairy Queen.”

Well something like it appeared in Ecclesiastes 3:12-13:

12 I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live; 13 also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil—this is God's gift to man.

But I am unsure if that is the origin. There are similar snippets a bit like it elsewhere in Bible like in Isaiah 22:13.

Perhaps it was something of an ancient saying that the Biblical writers alluded to.

I would think “liberals” would be for globull warming-—it means more food, more plant growth and warmer weather to have parties and orgies.

I thought we were promised seawalls given how many decades the oceans have been rising.

Where are the seawalls?

That’s exactly what they want. Broken people who need to be taken care off by the Gubermint. Dead works too, especially if you are conservative.

So much of our news these days sounds contrived like this, “I learned a hard lesson...” Change a few words and it could be why you should get your covid shot, or not listen to certain relatives. I’m not sure if it sounds more like communist propaganda or an infomercial.

Obviously he didn't watch any of the multitude of Documentaries on "Climate Change" made in the 60's and 70's until the mid 80's when we were Heading into a cataclysmic ICE AGE caused by our pollution from our cars and factories.

Susceptible to all this propaganda because schools no longer teach critical thinking skills.

The past few warming and cooling periods since the day of Moses tells us that our Modern Warm Period is not only the same ol' same ol', but actually a good thing. Only in Bizarro world is it somehow a bad thing to live in the centuries of global warming where crop yields are higher, rain patterns are easier to predict, and there are way less deaths by plague.

Prior generations knew that, including the first ones in our Modern Warm Period. That's why there was so much doom and gloom in the 1970's when the political cult tried to convince the masses that the Modern Warm Period is over and we were entering a new global cooling period. The problem with that farce was that the measurements showed we were still warming. So the political cult had to change tactics and convince the masses that warming is a bad thing this time, that somehow this warming period is different. That our warming is somehow unprecedented and higher than ever.

Look at the graph! Our Modern Warm Period is just a repeat of the Medieval Warm Period, Roman Warm Period, and Minoan Warm Period. I'll worry about rising sea levels when ancient Ephesus (Bible book Ephesians) is a port city again like it was in Paul's day; global cooling has moved the seashore miles away more than global warming has moved it back to where it was 2,000 years ago. Our modern warming and sea levels haven't even caught up to what used to be normal, and we're supposed to believe it's higher than ever?

Sean is mentally ill.

There is no need to find a solution to a problem that does not exist.
