Legislation would allow individuals in Illinois prisons to earn parole regardless of the crime

One of the architects behind the SAFE-T Act and cashless bail is now pushing legislation that would permit more prisoners in Illinois to become eligible for parole.

State Rep. Justin Slaughter, D-Chicago, announced House Bill 2045 that would allow a person serving a life sentence to become eligible for parole.

“We believe it is going to increase public safety,” Slaughter said. “The efforts will indeed help citizens become more productive, positive citizens.”

Slaughter is a member of the Legislative Black Caucus, the group of Illinois lawmakers responsible for the controversial criminal justice reform package known as the SAFE-T Act. A lawsuit challenging the cashless bail portion of the package is currently being considered by the Illinois Supreme Court.

State Rep. Carol Ammons, D-Urbana, has introduced a similar measure in House Bill 3373, which would allow prisoners serving a life sentence to earn parole, which she said is good policy.

“It saves money, it looks at people based on their merit and what they have done while they were incarcerated, and it gives them an opportunity to have some hope,” Ammons said.

But state Sen. Jason Plummer, R-Edwardsville, said sometimes there are more important issues than saving money.

“Absolutely we should be about saving money, but I don’t think dollars are more important than people’s lives,” Plummer told The Center Square. “I think that we have to make sure that we protect our communities.”

'We believe it is going to increase public safety,' Slaughter said.

I never heard such a stupid statement in my life.

It's akin to the idiots that said defunding police will make us safer. How's that worked out?

In San Francisco, which is beset by crime:

Mayor London Breed redirected $120 million from law enforcement to fund other city initiatives in 2020 as crime continued to surge in the city – with homicides increasing by 20% in 2020 compared to 2019. Homicides also increased 17% in 2021 compared to the previous year, according to city data.

Tell you what, Representative Slaughter: Any criminal lifer should be released in Chicago and made to stay there. This is what your voters voted for after all.

I live maybe two miles, as the crow flies from Illinois. The political difference between IL and MO is almost hard to grasp.

Because there aren’t enough violent criminals walking free already.

Everyone who gets out free under the SAF-T Act gets a SAF-T sucker with safe loop:

I mean when the lazy workers get off welfare and go back to work.

Fact: The state of Illinois is a Democratic stronghold and one of the “big three” Democratic states alongside California and New York. It is considered one of the most Democratic states in the nation and following the 2018 elections, all six statewide elected offices are held by a Democrat.

If more crooks go free (not all from Chicago) then more Dems will be crime victims, some fatally.

I now have an opportunity to say whether I’m sorry about that and sympathetic. Here goes:

The “historic” Dung beetle turd roller Party is doing everything possible to get more Americans killed. Killing American babies wasn’t enough. Now they want their criminals to be release so they can start taking out the rest of the Americans and fill the gap with freeloading, thieving chumps with anchor babies from south of the border.

If work sends you into Illinois ask for hazard pay.

They ought to give the newly released felons guns and ammo when they leave prison.

Dumbasses.

As a Christian, Ive generally been uneasy about capital punishment, believing that the oft-promised life without parole was adequate deterent. But this sproves that those promises were meaningless, and thus capital punishment is needed.
