It's only a matter of time until the gub’mint is forced to do to Social Security (aka the biggest Ponzi scheme ever) what France is doing.

Socialism strikes again!

Government-paid pensions are about as socialist as it gets.

I want a pension of $1 billion per month. 51% of the voters agree. So give it to us.

If I had reached the age to get social security which I had paid into for 45 years and the govt said no - I would have been upset.

With some creative thinking and bold action, this can be avoided. Politicians are not known for either though.

I could outline a plan that would save Social Security but chances of it actually passing are slim.

I will give you that the French and American (the French would say Anglo) work ethics are quite different. The French believe that they have a ‘deal’ with their government that includes lots of things above and beyond the workplace. And they tend to react, violently sometimes, when they feel that the government is not keeping its promises and holding true to its end of the deal.

Macron has used an article in the French Constitution that allows him to raise the retirement age without a vote of Parliament. It would be as if Brandon announced an ‘executive order’, that because of the Covid epidemic ‘emergency’ he was raising the Social Security retirement age to 72.

You and your employer have paid into SS your entire working life and now you are told that Brandon has changed the rules as to when you can draw on SS.

Of course the French are livid. Culturally and maybe historically, they are much more inclined to take to the streets than most of us are. This is a much bigger deal to the French, than say the death of St. George of Fentanyl some Americans.

You mean like Ronald Reagan did in 1983?

Was the ‘adjustment’ passed through both houses of Congress or did Reagan declare it on his own?

How much lead time was given for the change? Were people five years from retirement affected?

(I’m pretty sure I know the answer to my first question, not so sure about the second.)

Google is your friend.
The point remains that the full retirment age has been changed regardless of how it was changed.

France trying to start World War 3 (in Ukraine), no big deal.

France trying to make their people work an extra year or two, MILLIONS IN THE STREET!

I hope the French have a second revolution and give their government masters the harsh treatment that they deserve.

***Social Security (aka the biggest Ponzi scheme ever)***

Back around 20 or so years ago, in an issue of AARP magazine was an article on why the SS system was NOT a Ponzi scheme.

Ponzi schemes collapse. SS has not collapsed, therefore it is not a Ponzi scheme.

A few pages on in the same issue, Jane Briant Quinn had an excellent article on how the SS system was set up.

Without saying the word PONZI , she showed it was set up just like a Ponzi scheme.

For those with better research facilities, it was a March, April or May issue of AARP around the year 2003-2008.

It should be noted that SS was originally set up so a person could retire in their mid 60s. Life span for a man was 58 years, for a woman 62 years. So no chance of running out of money with excessive pay outs.

Then came Penicillin and the life span took off.

Old Age Pension Check Lyrics - Roy Acuff

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNXFkvY7haA

When our old age pension check comes to our door,
We won’t have to dread the poor house anymore.
Though we’re old and thin and gray,
Good times will be back to stay,
When our old age pension check comes to our door.
When her old age pension check comes to her door,
Dear old grandma won’t be lonesome any more.
She’ll be waiting at the gate,
Every night she’ll have a date,
When her old age pension check comes to her door.

Right. Changing the rules later after people like me paid since we were working part time at age 18 and full time from 1969 through 2017——and we get told it’s being taken to support BLM, climate change, lazy welfare recipients and illegals——well, we just say no.

Rush used to say politicians who decide to introduce cutbacks of seniors’ benefits had better get a good running start ahead of a mob if they do.

It'd be a much more productive protest if they burned the eco nazis. But they can only be so productive because if they burned socialists, they'd have to burn themselves.
