You can call it what you want, but here are a few things I haven’t seen DeSantis do:
* He hasn’t announced his candidacy
* He hasn’t filed any of the required paperwork to even start an exploratory committee
* He hasn’t solicited donations for his campaign
* He hasn’t run any campaign ads
* He hasn’t held any campaign rallies
* He hasn’t made a single public appearance where he’s ever said “I’m Ron DeSantis and I’d like your vote for President in 2024”
So, by the normal standards that apply to all politicians in this country, he’s not actually running a campaign for office. He certainly seems to be preparing to, and laying the groundwork to do so, but he is not in fact a candidate for anything at this point.
