From TV to Telegram to TikTok, Moldova is being flooded with Russian propaganda

In February, Moldovan president Maia Sandu publicly accused Russia of plotting to overthrow her government — an allegation first made days before by Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Russia quickly denied the claim and turned the tables, accusing Ukraine of planning a false flag attack against the separatist Moldovan region of Transnistria.

In Moldova, pro-Russian voices dismissed the coup plot as Moldovan propaganda.

"They say that this all is a hoax," said Valeriu Paşa, chairman of WatchDog.MD, a think tank based in Moldova's capital, Chisinau. "[They say] President Sandu [is using] these scary stories in order to make people forget about economic and social problems, and in order to install a dictatorship in Moldova."

Documents claiming to show Ukrainian invasion orders spread on Telegram and Twitter. A video claiming to show Romania massing military equipment on the Moldovan border racked up more than 300,000 views on Telegram, according to Logically, a company that tracks disinformation.

But the documents were forged, and the video was from a military parade held months ago, said Mark Sawyer, a senior intelligence analyst at Logically.

"It was old footage that was just recast as something new, which is pretty common," he said,

As Russia's war in Ukraine drags on, neighboring Moldova is feeling the consequences.

I'm more worried about the propaganda in the USA.

Tucker tells the truth and is assailed by high-ranking government officials - so is his boss.

It's almost like our Congress Creatures need a refresher course in the Constitution while tarred and feathered with an ass full of splinters.

Not defending Russia, anyone surprised by this news is not paying attention, information warfare is real and every country practices it.

From a cost perspective, Information warfare is extremely cost effective, a few people with internet connections can destabilize governments, influence huge numbers of people and potentially cause significant physical harm and gives countries plausible deniability.

Just look at how Covid was handled around the world and how information warfare was used to put so much fear into people it allowed governments around the world to put thru levels of control never seen before in most countries.

Instead of posting articles about Russia being bad because they are engaging in a cyber war over Moldova I would like to know how the USA is combating their operations.

How could Russia invade Moldova, the borders of which are with Ukraine and Romania? Russia has its hands full in Ukraine, and the Russian Army is nowhere near the Moldovan border.

You should talk. You and your cohorts have flooded this forum with idiotic propaganda 24/7 and it has driven people away with the stench of it.

We know what you post is total rot by what you use as credible sources.

Like this one, NPR.

This place might as well be DU.

Re: Flooded with propaganda

Sounds exactly like what has been happening in the USA since the Nixon Administration was assaulted and destroyed - 50 years ago.

Pro-enemy, anti-American, anti-defense protesters were a conduit for Russian propaganda in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Many of them were communist, fascist or feminist. Many of them abused drugs. Remember Hanoi Jane?

Kind of funny NPR complains about Russian propaganda when they’ve done nothing but put forward US propaganda themselves.

Thank you. I come to FR much less often because it mirrors DU and Daily KOS so much on the Ukraine crap. RevMom and DannyTN could all just do us a favor by going over to those sites instead. Maybe they already do post there for all I know.

Is this feasible? The Russians would have to fight through Ukrainian forces to reach Moldova. They have not achieved air supremacy and the Ukrainians are receiving additional MIG-29s from Poland, plus anti-aircraft missiles from the United States and NATO allies. Unless Russia defeats Ukraine, which it has not, expanding into Moldova would be foolish.

“How could Russia invade Moldova, the borders of which are with Ukraine and Romania?”

You realize that the Russian army already has troops inside the borders of Moldova, right?

Since the United States and our NATO allies are opposing Russia in this war, I think it is OK if the pro-America freepers can get a little coverage here of the non-enemy news.
