It does. I was listening to a podcast some ten years ago. It reported that a woman went in for a sex change, because she felt like a man. But she first became pregnant so, much to her dismay, she was placed on estrogen therapy for some reason related to her pregnancy.
And she no longer felt like a man! The estrogen made her feel like a woman, so she changed her mind about the sex change.
The doctor concluded that perhaps some people are sexually confused because they're low on their proper hormone.
Thank you for relaying that story.
I have always thought this would help because of my son. He was always very small, more than 2-1/2 standard deviations off the growth curve charts.
When he was going into high school, we went to see a pediatric endocrinologist about this. We didn’t know if he was just short stature like people are in my family, or late bloomers, like they tend to be in my husband’s family. We discovered that he was producing growth hormone, but that his body wasn’t able to utilize it. The doctor suggested that we give him growth hormone shots daily, until his growth plates closed (also testosterone but not as often).
It worked! Our son began to catch up! He went from 4’ 9” (and 66 pounds) as a freshman to 5’ 9” as a senior. I don’t remember how much he weighed, but I would guess around 140. Still not a big guy, but definitely a better height and weight, closer to average in the growth charts.
