When Morrill High School (Nebraska) coach April Ott broke the news to Katrina Kohel that she was the only one left on the cheer squad, she promised her that even if she couldn’t compete at the state tournament, they could still enjoy the whole experience.
They’d get fun coffee drinks, watch the more than 2,700 girls and 225 teams compete in the three-day cheer and dance competition in Grand Island and just have a good time.
But Kohel, the lone senior on what had been a squad of four, had other ideas. After talking it over with her mom, Della, she decided she had nothing to lose.
“I want to go to state, and I will cheer by myself,” she told her coach.
And that’s what she did.

When is the Lifetime movie?..................
This is a good kid. Courage, and big plans. She will go far.
She is not a cheerleader....she is THE Cheerleader.
Certainly, she is “The man in the arena”
Excellent!!!
Great story.
Good on her
And her competitors who supported her.
All great kids
The other three quit for personal reasons. Perhaps there is a story there.
What happened to the others?
Is this sole cheerleader a man??
Is that why the rest of the team quit?
The article assiduously avoided that topic.
Kudos for the young lady who didn't let the intimidation of it all hold her back. For it was a real character building experience, that will remain with her the rest of her life. 🙂
Sports... a totally USELESS waste of anyone’s time.
THEN... there is even a MORE USELESS exercise, cheerleading!
“Feel good story of the day.”
An Internet story, to waste more of your time.
She is not a man. I found her on facebook.
““Feel good story of the day.”
An Internet story, to waste more of your time.”
What did you have for breakfast? Ground glass?
And rusty nails lol
The ideal man is an athlete and a scholar. One doesn’t need to excel at sports but one should be a practicing participant. Only lesser men would disagree...

Speaking as a father of an All American runner and his twin brother who lettered 12 times in High School I can without hesitation state that that is THE most imbecilic comment I have yet read on this forum.....BAR NONE!
Are you a drug user?
Who gives coffee to teenagers?
THEN... there is even a MORE USELESS exercise, cheerleading!
Had a teenage crush that was smashed to smithereens? Sad that she broke your heart….your response was way too personal and revealing to be “i think cheerleading is a waste of time, like bowling, darts, ribbon dancing.” 🫣
I would totally agree with you if you had said school sports. Most Kids nowadays need more exercise based on BMI data but you don’t need school sports to accomplish. I was never a fan of the whole idea of “Be true to your school” even more so now given public schools today. Socialize in church or in other private activities.
