CHICAGO — Mayor Lori Lightfoot is the first to admit her bid for re-election will be far from smooth.
“There’s nine people on the ballot,” Lightfoot said in an interview with NBC News. “It’s impossible not to have a runoff.”
What’s appearing increasingly possible, however, is that Lightfoot will fail to make it even that far.
In Chicago’s municipal election, if a candidate fails to win a majority, then the top two vote-getters face off against each other in a second round of voting in April.
But with less than two weeks to the Feb. 28 election, the firecracker Democratic first-term mayor — who quickly brandished a national hate-hate relationship with conservatives — faces credible threats from at least three opponents in the nine-person race. Her unfavorables have soared with Chicagoans fed up with gun violence. In recent polling, she's failed to break into the top two.
All that adds up to the stunning prospect that a sitting big-city mayor could be eliminated from re-election contention in the first round of voting.
"It's looking harder and harder for her," one of her competitors, Rep. Jesús "Chuy" Garcia, said in an interview. "It's a hell of a front to be fighting on, from her vantage point."

She needs to be knocked out alright.
They’ll find someone even worse.
The civilized parts of our nation has it’s fingers crossed.
Replaced with something better or worse?
I won’t hold my breath. Just remember this is Chicago
She’s a TOTAL failure as mayor.
That means almost nothing in elections these days. It all depends on the Deep State!
No she’s not.
“Firecracker “?
Well, she does look she’s her face has taken a few hits from some M80s
If only.
Problem is, if the democrats are throwing her under the bus, the next person they install via election fraud, will be worse.
How low can you go.
Gee, what a shame.
Well, when you’ve sent one of The Party’s power bases past decline and into freefall....
“I know for many of you, you’re feeling a touch of violence, maybe for the very first time in your lives in Chicago,” Lightfoot told the crowd . . .”
Per the “Hey Jackass” site: 2,776 homicides in the city since she took office - Nice touch!
El Puta Politico O’Rourke might finally have a chance to win some public office if he moves quickly.
I assume it will be like other Rat cities. Louisville just got a new mayor. Same as the last one, just a different face. Rinse, repeat.
The crime is now seriously impacting Bardstown Rd in the Highlands. The liberals there are squealing like pigs. What’s that area like? About 10 years ago I joked with my daughter saying I would walk through the business/shopping stretch of the area wearing a Sara Palin cap. She got concerned and said, please don’t do that, no telling what might happen.
At times I wonder what the per capita ratio of “Just be Kind” yards signs and “Coexist” bumper stickers is.
Well, they just voted in another puke anti gun lib and they see no connection to their voting habits and their current predicament.
Chicago is not going to “elect” - and I use that word loosely - a mayor that is substantively different than Groot.
Vallas would be considerably better. Garcia shares Lightfoot’s kookoo ideology but *might* be more competent. Chicago could have randomly picked someone off the streets to be mayor and would have done better than Lightfoot. Last time there were better candidates than Lightfoot, but she is what you get when identity politics is supreme and 30% of the voters bother to vote.
“Hey Jackass”, now that site is a real dose of reality. Jeez.
Also an eye opener for crime coverage there is https://cwbchicago.com/
Maybe if she pops her eyes out even farther…
