European Union approves effective ban on sales of gas cars by 2035, requiring 100% reduction in CO2

European Parliament has formally approved a law that will effectively end the sale of gas- and diesel-powered vehicles in the European Union by 2035, calling for a 100% reduction in CO2 emissions for any new cars sold, according to Reuters.

The 27-nation union agreed to the changes in October 2022, but has now formalized the deal, which enforces a 55% reduction in emissions for vehicles by 2030. Levels for CO2 for 2021 were set at a target of 37.5%.

Vans will get a slight advantage in the market, requiring a a 50% cut by 2030, compared with 2021 levels.

Just a few months before the announcement in May 2022, car makers such as Ford and Volvo even signed a joint letter with 26 other companies asking the European Union to implement such a plan.

The target of 2035 has been justified by the EU based on what officials say is an average vehicle lifespan of 15 years, which would allow the EU to reach net zero emissions by 2050.

Makes me sick to think of all the toxic metals and acid that will end up in landfills because of lack of any decent recycling plan.

Stupid, government blocking of personal rights. It’s all about getting personal property out of the hands of people. The government will dictate how you live and where you go, and you will accept it - or else.

It’s not about gasoline vehicles, which are very necessary depending on the usage. It’s about socialism.

We rented a Tesla for a week in Europe last fall... actually, I rented a $250/week shitbox, and Sixt didn’t have any (but they did have 6 Tesla’s no one wanted to rent) so they gave us a Model 3 for the shitbox price.

We put about 1,200 miles on it. Telsa superchargers were plentiful and empty along the highways, but in cities, things got complicated. We saw People cruising around looking for places to charge their cars. Electric car parking on the street was sometimes premium parking so people would just park there and pretend to charge...

Then there was the price... 74 cents per KWH. We talked to a Tesla Owner at a mall in Munich while he was charging. he lamented his purchase and a “BMW would habe been Cheaper” - Even with $8/gallon gas, and it wasn’t even winter, yet, when range falls off a cliff.

Europe generally doesn’t have 2+ car garages and they park their cars outside, usually on the street. They don’t have “back-up cars” like Americans have.

Elon paid for all of our Charging (2022 Model 3 with a $74K sticker) so the cost of our week rental was $306 total. If we had to pay for charging, it would have been another $375, vs about $300 in gas for the shitbox we planned on renting... but the shitbox would not have gone 130mph like the 3 did.

The US actually makes more sense for electric cars than Europe... because we have much cheaper electricity and a place to park it (and we can afford a gas powered car to drive when its dead or want to drive a long way).

Southern France/Bavaria Won’t go along with this. Southern France is “French speaking America” and in Bavaria, a “smart Car” is a 1980’s Diesel S-Class Mercedes They are a minority, but they are where all of Frances/Germany’s money comes from. They make stuff people buy... and they don’t buy electric cars.

How are they going to hide data from the CO2 increases that will occur from making all of these cars and charging them?

100% reduction of carbon dioxide would also require100% reduction of humans.

I think that’s the plan...

Big business and big government walking hand in hand, to control markets. And this my FRiends is fascism, corporafascism specifically.

Geez. No original ideas whatsoever. No, “Hey, maybe we should make it 2038 or 2050.” Nope, it’s always 2035. Probably agreed on by the disciples of Ze Great Bug Eater himself, Klaus Schwab.

At this point, maybe hackers can get into our nuclear weapons system and launch warheads at the three great hives of scum and villainy: Sacramento, DC and Davos.

Indeed. Their electric grid cannot provided enough power for heating their homes and charging their autos as it is now. Where / how do they plan on producing enough in 12 years from now? Solar and wind power is insufficient and they are also attempting to phase out coal and natural gas at the same time.

Foolish American. The point is not compliance, it is the penalties for non-compliance that the totalitarian drools about!
