That is a stupid headline. To my knowledge no possible cause has yet been identified. Normally unless a wreck is caused by an obvious cause such as a large stuck on a crossover it will take several days after the fires are extinguished and the hazmat team determines the site safe for inspection before the company and government inspectors can begin to a detailed inspection to determine the likely cause. It could have been a rail breaking, a hot box on one of the cars or something worse such as evidence of deliberate sabotage. In any case the real or most likely cause will not be known for some time.

So, in addition to the Ohio derailment of the train carrying dangerous chemicals, we now have two more today. One in Houston, TX, and one in South Carolina. Both carrying hazardous chemicals.
“Senator JD Vance (R-OH) issued a statement on Monday, vowing to get to the bottom of the train derailment and chemical burn that took place in East Palestine, Ohio. Authorities released toxic chemicals from the derailed train carts to reduce the threat of an explosion. Residents were told to evacuate the area.
