If I were the Xinese, I would send 3-7 balloons per day from various launch points and terminal altitudes....attach some with “payloads” and others with large English language on them. That would deplete our stockpiles pretty quick and shift our military forces in a hurry.
No joke. They can float a 1000 “balloons” at $1000 a piece for a total cost of a million. We will expend 400 million in Aim 9 Block II missiles PLUS the cost of gas and maintenance on the aircraft (85k an hour without refueling).
Not for nothing, but it might be smart to find a cheaper alternative to knock these things down as this is not a very effective method to deal with them. At 40,000’ guns should be an option?
I am assuming that we used another sidewinder missile.
