BALTIMORE (AP) — Since the Baltimore Police Department started overhauling its practices through a series of court-ordered reforms in 2017, officers have become significantly less likely to use force against members of the public, such as brandishing a service weapon, deploying a stun gun or striking an uncooperative suspect into compliance.
But the agency still needs to improve its ability to hold wayward officers accountable and address a dire staffing shortage, according to testimony Thursday in federal court in Baltimore.
With a mix of praise and admonishment, the discussion focused on recent developments in a yearslong effort to enact sweeping police reform in Baltimore after federal investigators found a pattern of unconstitutional and discriminatory policing practices, especially against Black residents.

Seriously, the BPD should be disbanded and the people should reclaim their right to keep and bear arms. Vigilantes could do a better job of protecting Baltimore than the criminals with badges do.
This is just b.s. to comply with a court decree. Seems a judge was deeply moved by Freddie Gray’s self-immolation inside a paddy wagon. From the article, at least, the judge only wants to make sure police use of force is down, with no concern for criminal use of force.

Amen. Too many YouTube videos of cops that go for the cuff and stuff till we figure it out option. Or worse the ones that whip out the hardware and start screaming get on the ground.

If I was a cop today I’d be exactly like Sgt Shultz: “I see nothing!”. At least that way my chances of going to Federal prison for 20 years would be low.
Its why black murders and black traffic fatalities have risen 50% since the Feast Day of St. George Floyd.

Phoenix PD is doing the same thing, after our lovely DOJ investigated reports of excessive use of force.
The officers are not happy, from what I understand.
I do not know who would want to be a cop these days.
There are times when officers should go easier.
There are also times when some of the people on the street
should be beaten to a pulp.
You go out rioting, looting, perpetrating arson, and
injuring and killing people, I want guys leaving jail
with a life long limp.
As for those looting stores during business hours by just
loading up their bags and walking out, when they wake up
I want them contemplating if they are in a morgue or not.
Our society is crumbling. We either determine to get
things back in line or we all will deal with the
anarchy that follows.
We won’t be safe anywhere.
Well things are going to change the new governor said that the prison population needs to be reduced by 50% and it will be by color.
Gee guess which color is getting out......LOL
I’m sure they have many problems. Sometimes, though, I wonder if that “corruption” is basically trying to accomplish the right thing, the illegal way.
Sorry, I have little sympathy for the thuggery that rules Baltimore. And I ain’t talking about police.
