Q: Why does Martin Luther King inspire so much ugly sculpture?
I think it is because any public monument to him must be created by a ‘protected class’ who eschews any kind of traditional sculpture that might actually make him look good. But the DC sculpture of him looks positively inspired compared to the work unveiled in Boston—a pair of hands holding a giant turd. What was the sculptor and the people who commissioned it thinking?
