NBC Execs Regret Paying Jimmy Fallon $80 Million Contract Extension As Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld Beats 'Tonight Show' In Ratings: Sources

Hapless host Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show is losing the ratings war to FOX News rival Greg Gutfeld — and the TV flop’s sinking number has left NBC brass with buyer’s remorse, RadarOnline.com has learned.

Nearly 19 months after the Peacock Network handed Fallon a whopping $80 million five-year contract extension, The Tonight Show is drawing under 1.3 million eyeballs — less than half the audience of upstart Gutfeld!

But that number is even more shocking when compared to Fallon’s celebrated debut! The Saturday Night Live alum, 48, chalked up an impressive 11 million viewers when he first took over for outgoing legend Jay Leno — but now he’s also being bested in the ratings by Stephen Colbert’s CBS Late Show!

A source said NBC regrets the funnyman’s pricey long-term deal and added, “The network knows the days are gone when tens of millions of people would tune in for The Tonight Show — but they were counting on Jimmy to do better than this!”

From 11 million voters down to about one million. What should we do? Of course, reward him with a five-year contract extension. Many changes in late-night TV, some out of Fallon's control (I'm not saying I like or watch the show, I don't). But all of these shows have become outright shills for the left agenda. What are Colbert's numbers I wonder.

A great description, thanks. I was disappointed he wasn’t on last night, but totally understandable.

These stories have to be written by AI. In that excerpt alone there are four exclamation points. Good writing is dead.

Johnny was more of an “Old School” democrat. He would have had a field day with this “woke” crowd generation.

Isn’t a comedian supposed to be funny?

The problem with these hosts is they always try to make everything funny including interviews. That’s not a talk show. That’s cheap entertainment at the expense of a guest.

A good host makes it about the guests. That’s why Carson was so good, for so long.

I like Fallon in small doses. But I haven’t watched regularly in years. Maybe I am too old for silliness.

Fallon is less annoying than Colbert or Kimmel but I don’t watch anything at that hour.

“Biden is such comedy gold and they won’t tell jokes about him.”

Suppose Fallon would like to to improve his ratings but NBC won’t let him?

The Tonight Show became unwatchable after Jay Leno retired. Fallon is pathetic.

Yup...I do not watch much TV. (A little Magnolia) But “Gutfeld” is my nightly must see...sometimes it is a bit sleazy for my taste, but laughing at the end if the day makes it worth it. I really enjoy Tyrus...

I believe Fallon tried to walk the middle, as Leno successfully did. He did a very funny skit with Trump on his show when Trump was running for president, where they looked at each other as if in a mirror. After that, the guns were blazing at Fallon unless he caved to the leftists in the network administration. So, he began cozying up to Michelle, Barack and their entourage.

Best Fallon skit was with Metallica doing Enter Sandman with classroom instruments.

I like Tyrus and Kat. Gutfeld has a great crew, and they all have great chemistry.
