What exactly is a “high-powered weapon”?

Doesn’t matter. It will be overturned by SCOTUS. Who exactly gets to define what an assault weapon is? My dog is an assault weapon, as is my car.

Could a politician’s mouth be considered an offensive assault weapon?

SUPER Majority: House, Senate, and Governor.

Plus, law enforcement was stripped of several protections in the last session.

Fact: Guns prevent an estimated 2.5 million crimes a year or 6,849 every day. Most often, the gun is never fired and no blood (including the criminal’s) is shed.

How likely is this to pass in the IL senate?

Extremely likely, but in the long run it won't matter. Miller v. Bonta is pending in California, and once it is overturned, that will set the nationwide precedent that post Bruen all of these so-called "assault weapon" bans are unconstitutional.

Illinois House passes assault weapons ban

So, the people in Chicago wont be able to get their hands on a tank? Guess those people will have to head down to Texas or Florida, where they can arm themselves against the criminals. Now, only the criminals will have 'assault weapons' and guns and whatever else they need to commit their crimes. Kohberger's weapon would have been legal in Illinois, so, the legislators there needs to ban 'assault knives'.

Deer hunting in Illinois:

Illinois Department of Natural Resources, ammunition is restricted to .30-caliber or larger centerfire cartridges that are less than 1 2/5 inches in length or straight-wall cartridges of at least .30 caliber. Acceptable cartridges “must be available as a factory load, with the published ballistic tables of the manufacturer showing a capability of at least 500 foot-pounds of energy at the muzzle.”

The list of approved cartridges includes .45-70 Government and .450 Bushmaster. The .300 Blackout and .44 WCF are also on that list, along with a half-dozen other bottleneck rounds, but most of the approved rifle rounds are straight-wall cartridges.

No bills get passed in IL unless Mafia approved or get elected for that matter.

IMO it doesn’t matter whether it passes or not, based on some recent Supreme Court decisions on the 2nd Amendment all these Assault Weapons bans have been ruled unconstitutional

They don’t care.

It looks like they’re doing ‘something’, and the populace continues to be disarmed and disenfranchised.

Not one gun will be taken from the hands of criminals, so nothing changes - but reference line 1 - they don’t care.

This is what politicians ‘doing the work of the people’ looks like.

We need to push to make people stop using the word “weapon” wrong. Guns are tools and only become weapons when used to ‘assault’ people. A weapon is ANY object used to harm someone.

“How likely is this to pass in the IL senate?”

It will pass and Prixter (well, that’s what WE call him, anyway) will sign it.

It is clearly unconstitutional, but we’ll have to let it play out through the courts.

I read the whole bill, which has been posted on line, and it appears it is in effect banning several semi-auto pistols, because their basic, as-designed magazines hold more than 10 rounds. The bill also criminalizes possession of ANY magazines capable of holding more than ten rounds, regardless the type of firearm. It’s an ex post facto law, and is unconstitutional.

How utterly arrogant of those legislators! As if any law they pass will have an effect on the very problems they claim that their law is worded to impact. This and similar laws will only impact, by definition, “law abiding” citizens. It is not the law abiding citizens who are the problem.
