No shiite, Sherlock. That’s why Putin called for the mobilization of at least 300,000 troops several months ago - it wasn’t just to exercise his power, there was and is a purpose behind that call-up. Oh, and it is likely going to be a LOT more than 300,000 that Russia mobilizes. They are fighting for what they believe to be their very existence, and even if their combat effectiveness on a soldier-by-soldier basis is low, “quantity has a quality all it’s own” (so said Stalin, and in that regard he was correct). Russia has traditionally overwhelmed opponents with sheer mass of numbers, and this will be no different.

FYI, I believe that the Russians will ultimately win, though this will still be a long and very costly/bloody affair.

Note that I don’t take Russia’s side, but facts are facts. My paternal grandparents were born in what is now Ukraine (though in the early 20th Century everyone, they included, thought of their birthplace as Russia, given that it had been controlled by Russia for a minimum of about 140 years at that point in time). As Jews, they had no particular love for the Czarist regime or the very anti-Semitic people ruled by the Czars. Further, my GF’s father was murdered by te NKVD in 1937 - and when I think of Putin, I think of the KGB - successor to the murderous NKVD. So I don’t particularly care for the Russians.

About a month ago, in an interview in The Economist, the head of the Ukrainian military said he knew that Putin had withdrawn troops to rest them and prepare for a major offensive.

In that same interview, the general said the Ukrain didn’t have the means to prepare a major offensive, he knew what resources he needed, and he knew that he couldn’t get those resources because NATO didn’t have them to give.
