In 1964 I was a kid living in Phoenix,AZ. I was the youngest of four brothers. My old man was a hard drinker before and after my mother died. He would not come home for days at a time. He would spend his entire paycheck in the bar and left us with an empty fridge and cupboards. I guess the neighbors took notice and called the local police. A Phoenix motorcycle cop showed up at our door, came in,looked around and looked at us. He asked where our father was,we told him we didnt know. The cop told us to stay put and left. About 20 minutes later he showed up with a grocery bag of bologna, cheese, bread, and soda pop. He had bought the food with his own money. After not eating for about three days that was some good chow!

I am so sorry this happened to you. Glad for the policeman.

God bless that cop, and God bless you for surviving. Alcoholism is a terrible disease, and only the person suffering from it can conquer it. Others must pick up the pieces when they don’t or can’t. Wishing you a wonderful New Year.
