Exactly true !
Do they even have the facilities to recycle the mercury ?,
or are the recycle programs just burying them in land fills ?
“I remember when light bulbs were cheap and actually provided light”
LED’s are so much better than incandescent bulbs. They provide a better light and a cost savings plus the reduced work of replacing them.
“No CFLs here but I have one LED light in the laundry room that came with the house. It’s horrible, flickers constantly.”
You have an unsafe connection.
Is it perhaps on a dimmer not designed for LED?
Our house is now filled with LED bulbs. None of them flicker. They all dim nicely with appropriate dimmers. Probably half of them are on Z-Wave automation circuits / plug-in dimmers, too, and they work well.
I’d guess you have a real old LED bulb or it has failed.
>>When it was cold outside we would turn on an incandescent lamp to take the chill off a room.<<
Yeah; and just see how far you get if you put an LED, instead of an incandescent, in the under-sink cabinet, to keep a pipe from freezing, too.
They got an ego enhancement when they successfully got into the toilet regulation business!
Biden administration proposing phaseout of compact fluorescent light bulbs

Next up: Biden administration proposing phaseout of light bulbs.
Not only that, but paper bags are 100% recyclable, and come from a very renewable resource, without clogging up our trash heaps, or getting sucked out into the ocean.
I remember you could buy small disks that dropped into the light bulb socket and limited the inrush current of incandescent lamps. It would greatly extend the life of those bulbs.
I threw all of mine in the trash just like they tell you not to do.
“..They will phase themselves out ...”
And they can take the diaper-wrapped, pedophile, demented moron with em...
CFLs have more use than any of these jackazzes.
FJB
“..by the Administration to help keep money in the pockets of American families ...”
LMAO.....THAT right there would certainly be a first for these thieving POSs.....
I think obozo pushed for compact fluorescent bulbs.
So I purchased a pallet of incandescent bulbs (my favorite).
I warm my house with strings of incandescent Christmas bulbs.
My Christmas lights are up from November through February.
STOP THE MADNESS!!!
“But in any case the coldest rated ones are only rated to -4 degrees F.”
In my experience (not necessarily correct in an engineering design sense), indoor LED flood lamps and similar electronic devices often work just fine outside in severe cold as long as they’re powered up all the time and their internal heat sustains them. A cold start might or might not work. I have an indoor webcam mounted outside under the shed roof overhang that does just fine as long as it’s always turned on; even the PTZ mechanicals function (it’s solar battery bank powered and so doesn’t have to suffer line outages). For that matter, it survives occasional summer sprinkler splashes also!
As did everyone else who ever bought them. Crap
Kids today will never know the joy of turning on the bathroom light in thr middle of the night to pee and having it finally actually give off enough light to actually see until after you are done.
Me too, then turns out the LEDs are vastly superior as are the low volume toilets. I had to replace an older toilet with the newer type and then proceeded to replace the rest of them in the house.
