(NEXSTAR) – Inflation may be easing, but households are bracing for at least one monthly bill to go up next month. The Energy Information Administration estimates the average natural gas heating bill will go up 28% this winter when compared to last winter.
About half of homes nationally rely on natural gas for heating, according to U.S. Census data. While the U.S. doesn’t rely heavily on natural gas imports, the Russian invasion of Ukraine has still been affecting prices here at home because American natural gas producers have been exporting so much of their production to Europe, reports NPR.

Christmas present form Brandon.
Gotta love those “studies”. Always nothing but good news.
The highest heating bills. Hmmm. Let me guess without even reading the article. The northern states?
Our heating bill for the last 30-day cycle is 30% higher this year than it was last year. The amount being charged for natural gas went up 15% year over year and the outside temperature averaged 5°F lower this year than last year. I can only imagine how large the increase is for people living in the Northeast where oil and electricity are the primary sources of interior heat.
What a bunch of bull crap. We live in Pennsylvania and our gas bill has already been $230 And we have a small house. Meanwhile they tell us the average will be $137 per month. Another Democrat lie.
And with home values still artificially high, I used my home equity to get a HELOC to pay for my solar. If you do it, be sure to do the research heavily and look past the "brochure version" of so-called green energy devices and storage to get the specifics of what it means in your situation in relation to your power consumption habits. My fellow conservatives are right that the leftist "green" energy is no match for traditional fossil fueled energy. But one thing home solar, wind, and water bring to the table is you get to customize it and regulate it for your own benefit -- not depend on other regulators to have your best interests at heart. That, and that alone, is why my home solar works well.

Thanks Biden, you total a-hole.
But people gave Democrats the majority in the Senate DESPITE the worst inflation in 40 years. And Biden will probably get reelected.
It is interesting that the article mentions only natural gas when oil, propane and electricity are far more expensive to begin with and in most areas have seen larger increases in cost per BTU this year.
.
Democrats don't 'lie' - they perseverate untruths.
Most times a 'lie' really only needs to be told just once.
Democrats do it over and over - compulsively repetitively.
People will complain about their bills, but will still vote Democrat.
And they don’t care when Democrats steal elections.
Sigh. I guess they’re hoping Biden will ride to the rescue with more free money. And who knows, that just might happen.
You have to find out to whom the study people donated their cash before you believe the results.
We have electric heat. My electric bill last month was $140. This month is $197 and we only had a few cold nights that were barely below freezing. Days were in the 60’s. We are having real hog killing weather next week (down to 9), so I dread next month’s bill. I’m in South TN.
We have a small propane tank outside that is hooked to a small indoor propane heater that we’ll probably have to fire up. The heat/air unit isn’t able to keep up if it goes below freezing. Units here are better at cooling than they are at heating.
BIDEN-FLATION is not easing. Didn’t read beyond the first sentence.
Curiously, we are paying substantially less for propane this year, when compared to our last fill-up in 2021. Doesn’t make sense, but I’ll take it!
“...Biden will ride to the rescue with more free money...”
Add a couple printed trillion $$$ like #FJB already did causing massive inflation will send the inflationary interest rate result way into double-digit territory ushering in the notion that Jimmah Carter isn’t even close to worst president in modern times. Heck, this drooling ole’ demented brain stem in the WH is even making Hussein look good.
Never in my wildest nightmare did I ever think it was possible.
In Colorado, Xcel has increased NG prices 117% in one year, with another price hike coming in Jan. 2023.
Do I really need to remind you that all of the alternative energy sources you mentioned are cost effective only in specific locations?
Where my wife and I live in the foothills surrounded by a bunch of tall fir trees the wind is highly variable. At our location the wind is usually not strong enough to be harnessed by a “micro wind turbine” and when it picks up it is typically too strong and gusty to be used by a “micro wind turbine”.
Solar is also not a viable option in this area because for 8 months out of the year clouds obscure the sky at least 80% of the time. Our trees and our neighbor's trees also shade most of our lot. We have not even got enough of a view to the South to use a satellite TV dish anywhere on our lot.
Not to mention that the time between sunrise and sunset currently is less than 8 1/2 hours. So even on those rare occasions when the sun does get through there are only about 4 hours a day when solar panels actually would produce much power in this Northern location.
We have no streams or creaks running through our property so “micro water turbines” are also not an option.
Suckers believed we’d have run out of diesel by now too.
