we use only Roku now
Plenty of free programming, pay stuff too but we dont
Link it to the hotspot ($10 per device/mnth added 10GB) on your cellphone and you dont even need an additional internet connection, unless you want that.
Gone, a $100+ mnth comcast bill

I would have cut the cord years ago if it weren't for my wife. As it is, our TV service no longer qualifies for a promo and it is outrageously expensive. She's finally ready to bite the bullet, but I also realize I will get to play "customer service" when it happens. Not looking forward to it.
Thinking about Sling Blue to start. No Disney or ESPN. No local channels, but no $10+/mo re-broadcast fees. An indoor from our location can get the major networks, if we need them (no DVR though).

Streaming won't offset cable costs because Streaming is losing money.
Paramount alone lost $1.8 billion in 2022:

Vudu is an option. You buy or rent shows a la carte. We watch several shows on Freevee (formerly IMDB) and Tubi. Both are free.

It’s not just the studios either.
The NFL has tried to coordinate with Amazon Prime to increase
their viewership.
Hopefully that has fallen flat too.

Never watched TV much for decades, do not miss it now.
Wife has one of theose Roku things and gets some of the few things she used to watch on cable.
It seems the few she cares about can be paid for independently, so she is not subsidizing the liberal garbage to watch them..

I have watched way too much tv in my life. More than enough for multiple lives. Same with the movies. The last 20 years has seen my network tv watching decline to zero. Same with movies. Spectator sports...ditto but I might watch the odd thing still. The world cup final this Sunday is a flip of the coin for me. Like this article says I need something compelling for me to watch now and the world of woke ain’t got me biting.

There’s no hope for entertainment going forward. It’s all been captured and neutered by a bunch of butt-humping homosexuals. Good, wholesome people want no part of the soft porn crap and counter culture they’re constantly promoting.

The cable company known as TCI cut the cable for me, due to a dispute with a housemate who died with money owing. Therefore, no cable for me. That held over when Comcast took over that cable system.
And I haven't looked back. I haven't watched ANY three-letter-network programs for decades, because I wouldn't "cure" the payment problem that followed me. Indeed, I had cable Internet resold as business service by an ISP for a few years -- payments went to the ISP.
Today I have fiber with AT&T, with no hassle.
I'm pelted with "offers" to come back into the cable TV fold. No sale. I have Roku and Amazon Prime.

Disney, Hulu, AMC and others tried to promote their large subscriber bases. Right up until it was revealed that their services are packaged as free add-ons to Verizon wireless and other packages.
No one under those plans pays a cent for those channels.

To make money, these outlets are going to have to come to terms with two facts: 1) They are going to have to produce original, compelling, and nonpartisan content that appeals to the wider population, and 2) they cannot afford to make content that only appeals to their circle of elite friends. That’s actually the same point said two different ways.

I have A gift of free straming all channel service. We don’t actually watch much there. American TV is Queers and Nwords
However, I also have Roku and almost all we watch is on there. There are lots of channels offering old TV and movies. Oner the weekend, I surfed for movies to be saved to a watch list.
I was flabbergasted at the numbers of movies offered. There seem to be literally thousands. Very very few seem watchable to me. Hollywood has produced an absolutely amazing number of really bad movies.

If you don’t follow, there are two great reviewers or show-biz reporters, “The Critical Drinker” (so far, except for “The Hobbit,” I have never disagreed with one of his reviews) and “Yellow Flash” on Locals.

About 3.5 million people are canceling their cable/satellite packages per year. That is a massive loss of revenue for entertainment outlets. It certainly is. Assuming the average cable bill is around $100/mo, having 3.5 million people cancel their subscription will have a $4.2 BILLION annual impact on revenue.
Repeat this year after year and you can see why they are panicking.
It gets worse (for them).
I now watch most of my content on either YouTube or Rumble for free. I don't mind watching a few ads. Now it appears that Twitter will get into the streaming game and it will be either ad-based (free) or ad-free (monthly fee).
There's really zero reason to have cable TV anymore. Unless you actually like watching the blowhards delivering their fake news or live sporting events which have become dominated by in-your-face political correctness.

This is inevitable. Back when I still had cable, I can't tell you how many times I paged through a hundred or so channels of absolute dreck, and
still never found anything I actually wanted to watch. Most of what they produce is absolute garbage. If you weren't
forced by the cable companies, to have most of those channels, the majority of them wouldn't have been able to fund running a test pattern.
When you only watch what you want to watch, things change radically.
