A full-blown “major war” between Russia and the West could possibly break out over Ukraine, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warned on Friday.
Commenting on the state of play ten months since Russia mounted a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg said that it is a “fateful time for Europe” and that things could “go horribly wrong” and spill over from a proxy into a direct conflict between Russia and the NATO alliance.
Speaking with Norwegian public broadcaster NRK, Stoltenberg said: “I fear that the war in Ukraine will get out of control, and spread into a major war between NATO and Russia.”
The former Norwegian prime minister said that he is “confident” that such an eventuality could be avoided, noting the build-up of NATO forces in Central Europe.
While Ukraine is not a member of the alliance and therefore not guaranteed protection, Stoltenberg continued: “[Vladimir Putin] knows it’s one for all, and all for one. NATO’s most important task is to prevent full-scale war in Europe, and that is something we work on every single day.”
On possible negotiations for peace, Stoltenberg said: “At some point, conversations are useless. Putin had decided to use force and power. What helps is supporting Ukraine militarily. It is only a strong Ukraine that leads to peace.”

One way to deter it would be to do a massive buildup in the military.
Russian can hardly hold onto a proxy war with the West so why would it want to widen it?
The answer is NATO and Biden want it.
Let the Euro trash have their war. Leave us alone. Hope Putin nukes Germany.
Russia does not have the conventional strength or capability to fight Poland.
That’s the problem. The cult that is the Great Reset is on a messianic movement to save the planet from whomever cannot be dominated, including us.
Ukraine sadly is just a tool to be used.
Bosnian folks I work with said small European countries just get used and pushed around, whether by the Soviet Union, Italy, Turkey, Germany, Great Britain, France, the United States, etc. Ukraine is the latest example.
It’s a global Jonestown and all are expected to drink the Kool Aid.
NATO/US have been planning for it for a very long time.
NATO has been attacking Russian targets inside Russia and outside of Russia on the high seas (Nordstream and targeting their largest warship)
Nato keeps taking it outside Ukraine, it will eventually come home to them.
US/Nato have been in this war long before Russia entered Ukraine.
Russian civilians end up dying on Russian soil because of Biden’s weapon shipments to Ukraine and Americans will end up dying.
Ukraine is a European problem, not an American problem.
Massive buildup? With what? We would need 31 trillion before we could even reach broke. The military is falling about 25% short of it’s recruiting goals. And About 75 percent of US 17- to 24-year-olds are ineligible for the military due to lack of education, obesity, physical problems or criminal problems.
Maybe instead of refighting the WWII eastern front alongside actual nazis, we should quit being A-holes and stop our world domination quest.
America has zero interest in Ukraine, and there would be no war there without a decade of us pushing for it.
When Russia, Europe and America have finished destroying each-other due to neocon wet-dreams, China and India will be the two powers running the world.
I’ve said all long these insane neocons are pushing for WW3. I doubt the people in Europe will go along with it however.
And DC would be nice. We could have people from republican states come in and powerwash the granite monuments off after the radioactive fumigation treatment.
I suppose a war could break out between NATO and Russia.
But one of two things must happen first. Either Russia would have to cross into NATO territory, or NATO would have to send troops into Ukraine and engage the Russians.
Each possibility is equally insane. But the latter one is far more likely.
Sigh. I sure wish Trump were still in the White House.
Nato is already in Ukraine.
