L.A. Mayor-elect Karen Bass Clears Homeless From City Hall for Inauguration

Los Angeles Mayor-elect Karen Bass is set to be inaugurated on Sunday — and so city crews have been moving a homeless encampment from outside City Hall, hoping to avoid any unpleasant visuals when she is sworn in.

The Los Angeles Times reported:

Unhoused residents who have been living at 1st and Spring streets, some for several months, were loaded into vans Thursday and whisked to the L.A. Grand Hotel, a temporary homeless facility on Figueroa Street that is scheduled to shut down Jan. 31. Several said they were told that they needed to relocate in the run-up to Bass’ swearing-in, which had been scheduled for Sunday outside City Hall.

“They said that they were going to be coming through here and cleaning this whole section out, because the mayor is having her inauguration,” said Robert Fulps, 47. “I don’t know what cleaning this up has to do with that, but I assume … it’ll be on the news and they want it to be clean.”

The operation underscored the magnitude of the challenge ahead for Bass, who will lead a city where more than 40,000 people live without permanent shelter and frustration is at a boiling point. The crisis bedeviled Eric Garcetti for much of his time in office. Bass has promised to act with renewed urgency, declaring a state of emergency as soon as she takes office.

On Thursday evening, Bass announced that the ceremony would be moved to an indoor venue due to rain:

Anecdote from the Clinton years:

Before I retired I commuted to Hartford, CT.

The homeless were all over the place.

Then there was an announcement that then president Clinton would be visiting town in a couple of days.

The homeless mysteriously disappeared and nobody could figure out where they went.

Apparently they were picked up in the middle of the night and hauled off somewhere....

I still don’t know what happened to them.

I could develop a good amount of respect for her if she were to move them to Beverly Hills. The Clampetts would welcome them as neighbors. Mrs Drysdale? Not so much!

Not surprising. Just look at Martha's Vineyard circa September 2022. My guess is that they disappeared to New Canaan and Darien where they were welcomed with open arms.

I thought they were not allowed to call them “Homeless” in LA. They are supposed to be “People living outside.” Or some other nonsense.

Next election when her foes and opponent(s) will say that she did
'nothing' to address the 'homeless problem' - she can point to this!

——Unhoused residents——

Unhoused. That is perverting my language that describes the people as tent dwelling squatters.

It does however recognize the reality that the people are not actually homeless. Such people chose to reside in tents pitched on public lands

“...Unhoused residents...”

80%+ are mentally-ill.

Quit building $80 Billion bullet trains to nowhere, and build mental institutions to care for them.

Same thing happened during the 1992
Dem Convention in NY - then as now midtown west was filled with homeless. When the convention came to town they vanished for a few days.

What was strange in Hartford is the homeless never came back to their previously favorite areas.

Over the years new homeless folks gradually reappeared—but in different locations.

‘Unhoused residents’ LOL

I’ve noticed that phrase creeping in to the leftist lexicon lately.

I think their current favorite is still “threat to our democracy.”

They’re such mindless lemmings. LOL
